My god, do I love this manga. Bizarre powers, a well mapped background, just the right amount of style and characterization, and a mood that stays constant throughout. Translations go about halfway through the third volume! Japan is nearly at volume ten though...

The good news is that a handful of translaters are picking up the series, so we may finally move past chapter 12!

I looked at some of the raws, and things really pick up.

13 has Kidd the son of Death, investigating a ghost ship.
14 shows Sid the zombie commando getting in over his head.
And then 15... is when you realize the manga is going to get awesome.

Three shinigami students (technicians) train their Demon Weapons (people that transform into weapons) to become Death Scythes, to be used by Death himself. 99 evil souls and the soul of 1 witch will grant the necessary power. But nothing seems to go easy for the three students...

Maka: A scythe technician, smartest and most balanced tech. Her father is Death's strongest weapon, and her mother the technician who developed him. Wants to make her scythe, Soul, more powerful than her father, who is a bit of a letch.
Black Star: A hidden weapon technician, has a high level of ability based on a variety of ninjutsu, but also has an ego that could crush a house. Partnered with the multiple formed Tsubaki, despite being an assassin, tends to announce his name so that people notice him.
Kidd: A double gun technician, is the most powerful shibusen, with the most crippling personality faults, he takes his idea of perfection to unhealthy extremes. His two partners Patty and Liz are sisters, who try to keep him from killing himself when he questions if he folded the toilet paper wrong.

What starts off as a villian of the week style, quickly builds on itself and expands to show the conflict between the shibusen school (who act as a kind of supernatural police) and the forces opposing it.

Side characters include...
Blair: A pumpkin obsessed witch... or not.
Death Scythe: Maka's father, hangs out in girly bars.
Sid: Former shibusen teacher turned zombie assassin.
Dr. Franken Stein: A powerfully dangerous surgeon.

With guest appearances from:
Jack the Ripper, Al Capone, Lupin, and Rasputin!

Anyways, I need to apologize. I screwed up page 34. It's corrected, and I PMed greg to tell him about the error (which should be fixed soon), so it should be good. I also messed up the credits page. It should read like this:

I don't know how Maka/Soul will get out of this one. The damage seems deep.. They'll probably use each others souls as anchors to not get sucked in with all the power...

Maybe or maybe not. Tsubaki, Liz and Patty were all "human" I would say from different places. Tsubaki is from some ninja clan(I think) who inherited the powers to shapeshift into different ninja items. Liz and Patty were from New York who grew up in the streets. So yeah it really is pretty confusing on that part.

No... that would be pretty impossible, Liz and Patty lived on the streets, and most of the other weps are kids. So... unless they're all prodigous techs, (remember Death scythe's techs were all in the late teens or early twenties [complete guess])

We don't know that the twins started off as humans.. they could be humans but still weapons when they were on the streets... Tsubaka was born a weapon as both her and her brother were blade weapons.

No, I just think that it must be related to is status of weapon (so being someone special)and then he was afraid of the others, and lived alone (kinda like the sisters), but now he has friends with him. That was what Chrona was lacking, she feared it, she herself created the limit of her world and was alone, when she drew that circle in the sand.

The black blood makes the technicians fuse with the weapons. Others that are unaffected by the black blood can not do what Maka and Chrona can.

I'm not sure how to explain what the Black blood is... All I know is that it talks to those its affected and kind of controls their actions through a mental link. I think the black blood gets stronger the more the 'victims' allow their control.

I don't know if that makes sense.. :/

Yeah, you seems right SG, the black blood is relaed to this small monster we see in Soul "dream", the more you let your own blood fuse with the black blood, the more you'll drive in crasyness (and also the more difficult it would be to stop the control of this blod of course)...Maybe the witch will give some other information on this blood...but I doubt

The black blood makes you battle crazy only. If you are not in battle you retain some sanity but that's it. In battle the black blood makes you powered up to the extent that you need to win no matter what. I doubt the monster is directly related to the black blood but it must be a manefistation of Soul's own soul being slowly possessed by the black blood.

Chrona and Maka are different though. It seems when Chrona got her black blood Ragnarok came with it. This time Soul got the black blood and he passed it on to Maka. Soul himself has his own body. So I don't think Soul will come out of Maka's body.

Yeah I agree with reaper, they won't be one as Chrona, Chrona and Ragnarok were one since the beginning I guess. And also for the little demon, reaper thinks the same as me, it's the manifestation of the blood seen by Soul (the reflect of the soul?)
Oh, and is it me, or Soul looks ugly in the anime? He's one of my favorite characters (well, in fact, they all are...), and he has to look that bad?
If only this manga could be published in here (just the cover are way to cool! I want to have the books...)

I like Kidd better. I really see no difference in Soul in both anime and manga though. But it seems that his "drool" is ommited in the anime

For me, the eyes were kinda different (mid close too, but he has a diferent look)...by the same time, the art in this manga is really special, really dynamic (I think it tend to a style near tags in a way), so i can understand if the anime isn't the sme (I just hope it'll be good...ifnot, that would be hell...Rosario Vampire is enough-it's good but without knowing why, I'm not fan at all...)

As for the style in the anime, ithink it will probobly be a little different for a while but then once the artist get the hang of it it will look similar to the manga. That happened in the bleach anime. The first couple eps i hated because it didnt look like tite kubos style at all but eventually they got the hang of it. The thing I am worried about is how long will it take for them to catch up with the manga? I hate fillers. And i dont want them to deviate from what the original story was or try to finish it like they did in the first release of hellsing and in trigun.

If she just wanted to experiment on Maka with the Black Blood she wouldn't need to go all the way to the Kishin's seal to do that. She did say that she wanted to experiment with the Black Blood though. Also Free said in the recent chapter that the Kishin is thirsty for blood. One can only assume that they are going to feed it the Black Blood.

Yeah.. exactly.. no-one would be able to control it including the Medusa woman.. So there isn't really a point in awakening/releasing it..

They are probably going to do that- feed/infect it with the black blood but I don't think that it's what Medusa wanted. The whole scenario (Kishin Seal) was to get Maka/Soul who was infected with the black blood to be taken over by it via fighting with Chrona..

About this chapter, we finally saw Kishi's madness in action, but the most important was Kidd's fight, so awesome (but so useless against an holographic projection...)

We all now know the debute for the Soul Eater anime and is going to be about April 7th 2008 and I heard from other people that the Soul Eater is still on going after the 10 volumes. I hope Soul Eater is all translated really quickly but than the supporters has to do all the work... Only thing most of us could do is to support or wait for new updates of Soul Eater.

No, sorry to bother you...but Soul Eater is maybe already finished..I'm not sure though, but I think it's something like 10 volumes (we are now in volume 4 or 5...). So all the raws are already available (looke at here (http://www.souleater.fr/?page=raws), I believe the raws work). But the team who was working on this (Sniper was in it I think) used french scans...and the french team hadn't made update since almost one year(one year since I'm stuck to chapter 20...)...so basically, you can find the raws, but no the trads, that's it...So don't be in a haste to see the next chapter
