Well that's you, for not liking the SJ (let me guess, except for TLR). Haha! Mainly SJ did become popular because to the top 3, but that goes as well for other series in the magazine (including TLR, which you also like). To me, both is 'a okay'! Only a several particular series of course.

This series only has 13 threads, claymore already has 21 threads, soon 22 and it hasn't even gotten it's own fan group. The reason why they don't add new forums is simply because these series, that are in the Other OM-series-forums, are not as popular as Naruto, OP and Bleach, so forums for non-popular series would become very empty, being waste of space and bandwidth (That coming from Greg, the forum admin).

Hey, if you pay close attention to Love Hina, you can see some huge (bigger than i expected) similarities between it and Negima. Once such is: student falls in love with teacher (naru, seta AND asuna, takahata). Also, Teacher is cool martial arts that beats up main character (except, in negima, Negi wins).

So here is the question. Who is cooler? Takahata or Seta-san?

Hmmm...Seta gets points for being both cool and a total clutz/dork/mooch at the same time. Takahata is a smooth character all around... you could see him as being a good role model.

Oh, another similarity is that Naru's sister is Mei (the mage from the School Festival that Kotaro beats in the tourny). They are exactly the same (Though they dont call her Mei in Love Hina) in appearance. Its like, the 2nd to last page of Love Hina Volume 14.

Wahou, now that you said it, I remember clearly, but I won't have thought about it. And the first time I read the firsts chapters of Negima, I was "it's Love Hina with more girls...", but now, it's more leading to magic, that's a first time for Ken Akakmatsu (all the other books were harem types)

Ok Duath and Useless, heres my quick 'defense' of the series. First 16 chapters are boring, fan service, introduction chapters. It takes a good while (heck, even the Kyoto Saga aint the best) but it does get very good and very suspenseful (No doubt any negima fan would say the School Festival was VERY GOOD). There is plenty of action, just its later on. I would continue to read the chapters so you can see whats its really about. It has a darker side to it, i suppose (negi's past for instance is pretty grim).

The later parts become more adventure/fantasy/action. While the later parts have SOME characteristic harlem parts, it is not romance (harlem is a romance genre). Negi is more mature than older people in the fact he has a goal apparently and is working towards it. It makes more sense as you read farther into it I believe. Once you've read the Vampire saga (i believe it ends on 25), you'll see thats it not so Harlem-like. The kyoto saga that comes right after pretty much sets the tone for the bigger and better parts (though the school festival surpasses it in action by far).

Good point, those links did not prove much, but showing it has a fighting component is important in judging if you want to read it or not. It has quite a bit of fighting. Darkreaper, it is not a manga about 31 girls falling for Negi. It has harlem CHARACTERISTICS, but it is not a harlem. Harlem is, as you said, lots of girls falling for the main character and thats the main plot. The plot of Negima is more about a boy trying to be about his father and other magical aspects. The harlem characteristics i was referring to is, yes, lots of girls like him but thats not the real plot. Also, Harlem is a subgenre of romantic manga/stories. However, Negima is NOT a romance novel/manga. You will probably disagree however and i already know ahead of time and thats fine >.> As long as you agree that the series DOES get better.

In short, try it if you are patient enough to wait for the series is pick up (and it will and does get much better later) or you can actually skip to 16 straight away or just dont read it.

OP would never work in book form, its the outrageousness of the art itself that adds to the fun, but to each his own I guess.

From my observations of your art style preference, it would appear that you dont like art styles that are focused on combat too much. Because a good deal of the manga you highlighted have combat either being a non physical form or having it come second to the more dramatic events.

yeah along with those from previous post. on one manga i usually look at the cover to check out art. if its decent then i go to one of the pages to judge the art. if its ok then i read. i may miss out on lots of good manga like this but, if i am going to just read for the story, i may as well go pick up a HP book or something and read.

negima 202 raw still not scanned yet. maybe scanlators are playing super smash brothers brawl?

first three are past 50 chapters. last 2 is around 15 but still good. i found them to be really good. or you can debate with them to pass time. play on game system.

Hm, i'm gone for a little while and pages are filled with talk. Well to those who dont like negima and are wondering what redeeming factors, i will say it AGAIN:

-It doesnt stay a harem
-It becomes more action based
-Storyline gets better
-So on and so forth

So please stop saying "well, in the 1 and half chapters I read, a 10 year old pimp is being molested by 15 year olds". I know, i know, i've read the book. But you need to get PAST that part to see the real and better negima. The harem parts are only there because thats ken's strong point (is it now?) and its for humor (and it is funny), and the harem parts go down later. As far as i recall, not all good manga start of amazing (bleach in mind, was boring until the 16th episode. An episode is a couple chapters if you think about it in the manga sense). So there is your explanation of why we like it: it gets better and more actiony and interesting.

It's a very bad idea to watch some live adaptations from mangas and animes. That's why I try not to try to watch them , may be a waste of time. Konoka chubby? That just told me to never watch that live adaptation of Negima. And Kotaro is my favorite.

Ok, here's my take in what I think of Negima. Yes, in the beginning - it do look like some sort of harlem of a 10-years -old English teacher with 31 teenage girls...went on for awhile for comedy's sake, then the Mahora Festival arc come with better plot in action and further into negi's real purpose why he's there in the first place.

So there, end of harlem arc - I don't think now is anymore in current chapters. Long past since. Sure, it can be a bit of pervertism about a 10-years-old boy and these girls in his classroom...but I know it can't last forever when Ken have something bigger in his mind for the Negima series. After all this is a FANTASY theme, see? Let's be done with these 10-years-old comments - it's been beat to death many times! At least it is to my eyes anyway.

Now, moving on - what of other manga do I like for art comparation? Hm, Negima art is good - much like Love Hina, maybe bit better art-wise since then. Believe or not - I never got past few chapters of Love Hina! I'm not interested going further past that point. Dunno why but that's me. Even I haven't read Bleach - not one panel! So I can't comment what it's like about art. Naruto is a-ok but no better than others IMO.

I guess I'm something of picky when it come to art, storyline, elements of characters and flow how the story build up. To give you an idea what I like to read - Lone Wolf and cub is one of my favs (because of story itself), Eden is another example. Yes, I also read OP because it's so funny even if the look of characters are silly and dumb - I do that just for the fun to relax up.

As you can see I have different tastes, so does yours too. That I respect and good to know not ALL of us are the same!

You serious? I've been around for all the Negima threads since it started and it has all been about spam. Nothing more nothing less. I think probably 2-3 threads could be made up of arguments but that's it. Most of it is spam by people who just want to post something. Part of the reason the Negima thread pisses me off now. >_> It was better when it was in the old forums.
