OOC: Remember, all of you, NO GOD-MODING. I know all those powers can be tempting, but keep it under control and don’t get carried away. You may get a warning the first time, but there will be consequences for repeat offenders. I, the GM, have the final say and can do what I want with any characters.

From the desk of Nick Fury:

2009.02.22

It was a long, hard-fought battle, but the Skrulls had finally been defeated. I was correct in my data about Skrulls infiltrating ever part of the planet: S.H.I.E.L.D., Avalon, the Inhumans, the Initiative, the Avengers, even the U.S. government. This only proves my point that NO ONE can be trusted in this new era. And now, Norman Osborn has taken Maria Hill’s place as the head of S.H.I.E.L.D., renamed H.A.M.M.E.R., as the world’s “police” force. I don’t know which is worse...having it run by the Skrulls or the Green Goblin...

Over the last number of years, with my personal intel, I had traveled the globe gathering new superhuman beings to form a fresh, new team. Their first test was that final battle with the Skrulls in New York. They proved themselves worthy of my new team. It will be a privilege to lead them to victory. In time they will be the new heroes that the world can depend on...that kids can look up to. They will be the heroes that will make this world right again.

The Skrull invasion has been thwarted, but that was only the beginning. Now comes the long journey...

N. Fury

IC: Nick Fury
Underground HQ – Undisclosed Location –
Briefing Room – 0530 hours

Nick Fury stood in front of his team. They had all done very well in the final battle of the Skrull invasion. He just hoped he was right in choosing these people for his team.

During his time in hiding, he learned never to trust anyone. Not the Avengers, not his own “love interest”, not even the President of the United States. Because of those lessons, he couldn’t even bring himself to completely trust his new team. And they knew that. They know only the information they need to know. Fury knows that he himself is the only person that he can fully trust. Maybe he was just being paranoid. But he wasn’t quite ready to make that commitment...not yet. He hoped that his reputation alone would be enough for these new “heroes” to follow him into battle. Only time will tell.

“As you all know,” he started with his gruff voice, “Norman Osborn has control of everything S.H.I.E.L.D. had. But there were two top secret bases that only a few of us top-ranking officials knew about. And the data mainframes housed within those bases contained highly important data to which only I had access. It contains classified information that Osborn cannot be allowed to have. It’s only a matter of time before he and his lackies find those bases and get hold of that data.”

He began pacing a bit. “I alone designed the security measures within the mainframe. So, you tech guys and mutants with computer-related abilities,” he glanced at specific team members, “don’t even try to pry open the information. Neither StarkTech, Skrull, nor Shi’Ar technology has been able to defeat it.” He paused, wanting a somewhat dramatic effect...

“You will be split up into two teams. One base is hidden under the jungles of Central America, and the other is under the ice in Antarctica. I will be monitoring everything from the control room here. No matter what you encounter, retrieve that data at all costs and bring it back here safely. I’ll give you the devices to steal the data just before you go. Remember, we don’t have a jet, so I have to teleport you there. Those bases have been shut down ever since I...disappeared...and resigned from S.H.I.E.L.D., so you should meet with little or no resistance from the local security bots. But, anything can happen, so be prepared.”

He stopped pacing and looked over his team, eye-patch covering one eye. “Meet me in the control room at 0600 hours and I’ll teleport you out of here,” he said, and headed for the door.

OOC: This underground base we use as our HQ only houses the team members. There are no agents, no guards, no droids...just us. And it's exact location is even unknown to you. (Should you be captured, we wouldn’t want a telepath stripping that information from your mind. wink It’s just another way of keeping the base secure.) The only way in or out is to teleport. Fury is the only one who knows the actual hidden exits.

Also, please excuse all the mystery and secrets that Fury is keeping from you. In time, as the game progresses, he will begin to trust you more and let you in on those secrets. But, he just fought a battle with the shapeshifting Skrulls. So, he's a bit hesitant to trust anybody. tongue And the reveal of some of these secrets will only develop the story further. So hang in there. I do have a few things planned. wink

And have fun with this.

The gathering of ecclectic "hero" types left Sandra underwhelmed. She sat there in a short skirt, legs crossed as she leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand, and surveyed the crowd. Fury had brought her here, wherever here was and she was already sure it was a mistake getting involved in all of this again. She had traveled with Bruce Banner for a long time, and wondered what had happened to him and his alter-ego, The Hulk, for the time that he had apparently been sent away. That is until Hulk showed up and waged full scale war against anyone and everyone who dared get in his way, but she wasn't in New York for that. Sandra had been on the west coast, making her way in a world that didn't recognize the rights of dead people, especially when they had chosen to stay as far under the radar as possible when the Civil War started. Fury had found her there, minutes before an FBI team showed up to take her in for fraud, they frowned on people inventing their own identities and funneling money into them. Fury had taken the former agent and hidden her away, giving her a place and an identity that she could live with and all he asked is that she work with this team he was building. The Skrull invasion had been one helluva test for the group, and she had donned her version of battle gear, picked up some ordnance and fought alongside the rest of the super human community. Sniping, stabbing, hosing with enough lead to sink a bulk tanker until the extraterrestrials finally realized their green butts were kicked.

That brought her to the current gathering. She shook her head and leaned back on the sofa to pull a cigarette and light up her first of the day. She had seen most of them in battle so she knew very well what to expect from most of them, still there were bound to be surprises. "Oh six hundred means six in the A M for those of you who don't speak Fury speak. Or to damned early for anyone except roosters and one eyed Colonels." A smirk and a wink to Fury let him know that she was joking around but that she understood the gravity of things.

Standing apart from everyone was a dark figure whose glowing eyes were the only thing that spoke of the dark patch being something other than a natural shadow. The Shiverman did not move, he simply watched the others, and in fact most would be hard pressed to tell if he was breathing.

Sidney took a considerable drag from her long, slender cigarette and repositioned herself as to better facilitate her observations with the rest of the room. There was another of the female account not far from herself, pulling out a cigarette of her own and existing, at least to the aesthetic value, to be decently acquainted with Nick Fury. Then again they all were. She had been found by him within the waiting room of some washed out hospital in Washington, properly escorting the damage she had caused to its rightful responsibility. That year had been for the worse in her case, her large apartment, courteously funded by the nice corporate business gentlemen over at certain, parties one could say, fell flat on its lease. She was forced under such unpleasant circumstances not even her lovely celebrity friend movie producer could assist and she had to sell a perfectly fitting pair of Gucci pumps just to make her way out to Seattle.

Hulk rampaging about then, such a vile creature, and the Civil War was nasty for all of them. Though, the Skrull invasion, or rather their strived victory alongside each other did well to lighten the spirits and remind them all that with their powers combined, it wasn't yet the end. Or whatever Nick said at that time. Taking out a small compact mirror from god knows where she admired her reflection with the slightest, absent minded touch ups here and there.

Honestly, they had quite a bit of work to do, with the Green Goblin controlling that organization now it was only a matter of time before things got ugly once again. She pulled down on her little black dress and nearly cried out when she accidentally created a burn mark with her finger. She had scarcely suffered things so dire since back in the Depression.

Jacob watched Fury as he gave his speech. He knew he should be thinking more about the future, and what it will hold, but for the life of him all he could think about was what exotic toxins must be running through the former S.H.I.E.L.D. officer's system. The single relevant thought that went through his head as Nick Fury briefed the new team was that he'd rather go to the rainforest so he could get his hands on some frogs.
Plus, he reasoned. If anyone touches or eats something they shouldn't, I might as well be there to lend a helping hand.
In many ways, this was Jacob's trial run. None of the others had seen him either fighting with the Skrull forces who attacked Chicago with every exotic poison he could think of, or curing the coke addicts of his city via forcible detox. The closest the rest of the hero community had gotten to seeing his power was when he began comparing notes with Elixer of the X-men. He'd obviously proven himself, at least skill-wise, with Nick Fury, but the girl explaining military time while smoking a cigarette (I really must remember to detox her) probably knew nothing about him.
Come to think of it, if she only knew he was a mutant, she'd probably think he was something along the lines of Sabretooth. He looked the part.
Ahem..."Well then, I don't suppose we can talk about the weather, can we? What do heroes discuss in their underground hideouts?" Jacob asked the group, attempting to make small talk.
He was never good at this.

Franklin listened to Nick speech and made sure he didn't miss a word of it. "Wow Nick since I never knew how different this earth is compare to my home earth until now since I only got here a week ago. Since back home Norman Osborn was only the CEO of Oscorp and died before my birth and his son Harry took his place and has been running the company ever since. Also before my birth the Skrull and Shi’Ar empires destroy each other with none from either side surviving. And that you were the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. for life and was loved by all as well. But my dad was bad in this dimension whereas my dad was the leader of the X-men back home which shows how different this place is compare to home." Then Franklin decided to ask a question of his own to Nick.

"Also which team will I be sent to and of course I will meet you at the control room at 0600 hours and of course I won't try to pry open the information either." Then Franklin hears a question by one of his teamates and decided to answer the question to the best of his ability. "I don't know what we talk about in this hideout either and I only know how to fight since my reward after all of this is over with is a portal back to my home earth which I missed dearly."

Meena remains quiet as she listens to this mans words from what she has heard of this world is lacking hope just as she feared, she remembered tales in the Archives of a time before when heroes from her world had come to another reality the heroes they met called themselves the "Avengers."

She had been here for about a week when she had been accosted by a group of soliders apparently she needed to sign some act of soem kidn inorder to use her powers.... fair enough each society has it's own rules but the fact that they and fired at her first without telling her what they wanted ticked her off to no end.
"This world needs hope, if our actions can help to bring hope to this suffering world then I will assist you."

The young man known as Raziel stand quietly in the corner of the room, he remains silent as the others begin to speak, Fury will most likely listen to them to a certain degree, split everyone up and then send them on the missions he has planned.

"Teeheehee!" guffawed Mr. Wink.

'My, my, my Mr. Fury, you sure do know how to put on an entertaining display' , the insane clown "hero" thought gleefully.

A thought occurred to Mr. Wink. Fury had mentioned something about teams. Teams? Such a concept was foreign to Mr. Wink.

'I hope they're at least as fun as Mr. Fury Mr. Wink said, now comforted by his own thoughts.
