Congratulations on your featured/personal gallery!
[Disclaimer: I don't know squat about sigs/tags, and I know a little bit of art-related stuff. But if it looks off, then....It probably is off. Maybe? That's my hypothesis, anyways.]

Old stuff: The squirtle tag was kind of odd, in that squirtle was...Totally lost in the other black and white things which were going on. The one which says "Pain" in the bottom-left corner is a little busy as well. But, this is "Old Stuff," so, moving on...

Vertical Tags: The reddish tag with the caption, "Blind Leading the Blind" and "Tapioca" has an interesting dot-like effect which looks different, not neccessarily bad, but different. I don't have much to say here either.

I skipped over the Game HUBS/Wallpapers. The "New Stuff" I don't have much to say about, honestly...
Except that the Linkin Park one is cool.

I like version one; it looks more upbeat and happy. And though I don't know anything about that particular character, he/she/it looks more energetic than emo. So the brighter background/tag suits better.

I can't really see how you tried something new, it looks like the Haine tag only without the washed out foreground effects and slightly better lighting. D:

The text is barely legible so it adds nothing to the banner, and the blurring is too forced. :/

It failed alright.
Some colors blend badly making bad colors and pixels standing out too much.
Lightning is good, text isn't too bad, but I don't really like all the dark space.

I'm a fan of negative space so +1 for that...your lighting on the other hand is a -2. D:

That render has lighting coming from the upper left and you have it coming out of his daisy dukes...or the ground.

Either way it's not good, look at the angle of the shadows on your render and work your lighting around that.

And if your going to use that text style, then use more of it...right now it stands out, but not enough to give the tag a second glance.

I'm such a freak. Why do I like the tags that everyone else doesn't?! ;;;

I love this tag. Course there are a lot of bad things about it, but seriously, I like the effects.


The abstract look is my favorite, mostly because my graphics teacher used to use this style a lot- and I really like how you've blended it. Especially that blurred repeat of his scarf on the left, that was really appealing and you can count that I'm stealing that from you. ;O

I'm not sure it was a good idea for you not to erase a little over his stomach, since it's a little over-overlayed around that area, but it's not a big deal to me. The dark space I'm chill with, since it brings in the focus, and that's usually the way this style works anyway. Can have too much abstract bright cruddy crap all over the place, haha, that'd be really blinding. <_<

Anyway, the biggest beef I had with this tag that compelled me to post immediately?

THE RENDER JOB. ;; That, is what I call in dire need of cleaning. D:

And maybe you could selective color is so that there's more blue in Laharl's hair and less red in his scarf? Balance out the colors a little, since there's such a small handful of colors.

Anyways, I'll pick out the bad things first.

The blending over his arm makes it look like his hand is just floating out there. The curved Japanese/Chinese (I don't/can't differentiate. .____.) doesn't really fit in that spot. Move it to fit with the render and not just the direction of the flow. Some bits are oversharpened, which is the biggest problem. All the fractal-y effects are just...really, really sharp. D: The duplication also doesn't really work.

BUT~ I like the colors, the effects (if they're unsharpened. Layer mask ur shiz, d00d) and mostly the fact that it's not exactly the same as everything else you've ever made! Because you make things similar to other things you've made. A lot. D:

For the new tag, everything is pretty much as Useless said.

That particular fractal c4d you used is the devil, there are no tags that i have seen use it and apply it well. I used it for my Dragonair tag and i had to reduce it to a lighting effect on the star because it was that annoying.

In your case, it's better managed than i thought it could be, but it is over sharpened to an extreme, and the render does appear to have floating hands. :/

This kinda reminds me of the abstract tag that Nimbo made with the universe exploding only with a render in it. ^^

Oh and the duplication on the right is not great, i would rather see negative space there, but that's just me. ;D

It's better now.
There's too much light to the left of his head, lower that part's opacity.
Erase some of that stars in his cape, they look like over overlayed colors.
Maybe dodging a bit one his face will look good.
Oh and WTF is that stick on the right side!?

You're overusing the damn colors (they appear in almost all of your tags).
Text isn't too bad but there it doesn't look good. Some parts of the BG don't look good, and I don't really like how the render blends.
So get the text together, use some gradient map and colors and blur/sharpen some points.

I dunno why there's so much negativity in this thread, but I effing love this one. o_o
Like, the flames effect is amazing, and I would totally use this tag in a heartbeat. The problem, I do agree, is the text. It's not so much that it disrupts the flow; Seeing as there is no flow, and it's very appropriate in a chaotic tag like this, but the fact that it's just so static compared to the dynamics of the rest of the effects just kind of clashes. My suggestion is to turn the characters in various directions, instead of all in one direction. Maybe warp the text to curve with some of the flames, or something.

I really like the colors in this tag- especially how the flames are kind of muted; sepia, kind of. But I think whatever color effects you used, you should erase them over Natsu and the flames directly on Natsu, and change the flames around him so that they're brighter, more vivid, and redder/more orange. This way, your focal stands out more without you really having to do anything.

And last, I suggest you take a black soft pixel brush, go around the edges of your tag on the left and right to sort of make an outline of a circle, and then set that on overlay. It'll fix some lighting effects for you, and bring in your focal. :>

But basically, this tag rocks. Kudos. :D

The newest Haine tag: I wouldn't have known it was Haine without the text since his hair is dark. The white hair is such a strong trademark that I can't help thinking you shouldn't have changed the colour.

Otherwise quite good, but still too similar to your other work.

I like it. Not too fond of the render but the colours are nice and the vectors look good to my untrained eye. The text is a bit hard to read, not sure if it's more 'cos the small size or the colours. And it's different from your usual stuff.

I'm wondering what it'd look like if you didn't place the render in the center but on the side and extended the effects a bit toward the empty space while still leaving a lot of the background empty.

The Naruto tag is nicely different too. But I dislike Naruto too much to really like it.

Wow Shiv-san...it does appear that you have improved...even with your personal style.

It's not as messy and all over the place like before...the effects are cleaner, the composition is better, and it looks like you picked up a few things here are there.

The first one is cool...albeit a little chaotic, but i guess it's supposed to be like that, so i can't be too harsh for judgment. The text sucks, but that's about the only thing i see in the tag that does, so kudos~

The second one is down right awesome!...you're the first to make Rock Lee look like win on this forum. O:

It's a shame that it's a larger piece cause this would look great sig sized. I think you chose the perfect colors for the BG, that shade of orange and yellow combined and the smudge (?) tech. you used really worked out beautifully for this tag.

...Is that tree on the left part of the stock?...or is that a c4d?...in either case that would be my only complaint, cause it just stands out there. I can see you made the effort to blend it, but you sord of half assed it too. :/

FG effects look great and i even like the two circles that you have next to the text, which btw turned out better than your usual text. Even the duplication on the left looks good. Overall this is one of your best pieces in my book, im pretty impressed. <: KIU!

Third one...SOOO much better than your usual style. It has excellent color variation, the effects aren't as messy, and the focal looks splendid sitting right in the middle like that. Only complaint here is that text, which is awful to begin with, and made worse when it doesn't fit the tag. DL some new fonts, man! >D

O: Charlie the druggie from LOST~

I love that show xD...Anyway, this one would have to be the least fav. (for me) only because of the yellow, though. Combining the cool blue you have in the BG with the clashy yellow in FG is just not what i find aesthetically pleasing...but the overall compo is pretty neat and everything else looks cool.

I decided I needed to improve due to the fact Im losing every Wsac :P

The Rock Lee tag took me ages >.< The smudge kept looking fugly. So Id din't smudge :P, I used clipping masks and using a smudge brush, erased over bits of the Bg Ii didn't like merging them with bits I did.

I hate text, I really do, I have no idea what to do with it ever.

I like it. It's weird, different and interesting. What bugs me is the dark thing on the right, since I can't decide if it's his leg or something else. Not too fond of the text either. I'm still of the opinion that the only time you should put the text completely on the render is when you can make it look like it's part of the render. In this tag it would work if the text would look like a tattoo on his arm. It doesn't, it just looks distracting there.

Wow, I really liked your new batch of sigs here.
Well, the third one is the one I prefer, maybe it's due to some fan-boyism towards the character in the render (though, I'm not 100% sure it's Miyako)
I have no technical comment to do, but I had to post since I liked the recent changes

I have a question, it seems Aizen Sosuke has different looks in the manga and in the anime, everyone else so far went for the anime version. Will people recognise my version? (I used the manga version)

@Denis: It's not a difference between the anime and the manga, it's just that he changed his style after certain events... (that's as unspoilerish as I can make it)

@Shiv: The Haine tag is great at first glance. And then eyes are drawn to the second smaller blurrier Haine behind the main one and it's just too distracting. Lose the other head and replace it with background and you have a great tag.

Some of your tags lack focal points and not to mention have no flow. Others are just mass c4d's with a gradient bg and blur. I see some also have downloaded brushes (which I find takes no skills if used).

Though, I have to admit, some of your tags aren't bad. I would lay off though, some of those downloaded brushes and cramping your sigs.

a bit messy and the colors are completely washed out (aka too monochrome)....again. D:

The only color variation that i see is whatever that little thing in the bottom with the ice cream is and you should have left him out if you weren't going to use all of him, cause right now he's just kinda hanging in the tag for no reason.

...and i think the angle of the render is a little off, but that could also be because of the stock. :/

But on a lighter note, i think the lighting effects you did are pretty neat, the spatter brush effect would have been nicer if it wasn't so sparse...it's not super awesome, but it's not bad either.

p.s. I didn't really care for the style of the Aizen tag (too much positive space), but the one you did in B&W was pretty cool (great wireframes). <;

You put the c4d in random places. Word of advice, don't use c4d's unless for adding lighting affects. Slapping on a c4d to make it look "badass" doesn't help it one bit.

Exagerating a bit I must say that this is bad, the kind of bad you find in my gallery.

Bad lightning.
Too messy with a bad color scheme which makes it fugly.
And the way the render is blending is just too weird.

You're quite good but this one just isn't good at all, not from the way I see it.

Text aside, this has the potential to be an REALLY epic tag!

(it reminds me of an amazing topazed tag i saw once...only your isn't topazed. xD)

Anyway, i think if you SC the entire image and made the colors more vibrant, blended with some well placed FG effects, worked that lighting a bit more, and some decent text and maybe a little more depth, and this tag is win~

I see the direction you were headed with the top tag, but it is quite messy and extremely busy. The canvas size, I think, is a bit too large for the render and I think you tried to make up for that by overvlowing the FX a bit; they're pretty but they dont' have any rhyme or reason. I'd love to see you refine this technique a little; these same FX would have been spectacular if there was a solid flow pattern going on and killer depth.

The second sig I like quite a bit, aside from text, like you said. You had the right idea with it being partially behind another the render, but with such a large sig you shouldn't be afraid to have large text and use some FX on it; clipping masks or textures or even splatter brushes would be nice. Also, I think this sig needs better lighting; the colors could have really popped here but they come off as a little pale.

The canvas is way too big on the new one. Way too big. I like the lightning, but the liquefied stuff is gross-looking. Especially the lighter patch on the top-right. Like all your stuff, it's mono, and the text is in a bad spot. And it's also....a color. The text says Purple. I'm sure you realize...but...I think that's weird. >_>

I've seen tags that come out spectacular with it, and others that look like trash. Yours would fall under the Normal range, the focal is what makes it look good.

You're really spamming the lighting, is that part of the tut. or did you just favor the effect? Anyway, try not to rely on it too much for future reference. ^^

You should really try and make some of your tags smaller, it would help eliminate all that positive space that you seem to have trouble filling. :/

Crop it horizontally! D< Take like 100 pixels off the left. It'd make it look better since it's way too big right now, and it'd make the render less centered.

The details in the tag are, like, gone.....D: It's just a bunch of lighting everywhere. Try working with a more apparent flow into the background, rather than just some hodgepodge of directional lighting making the entire thing all glow-y. >_>

Though the stock in the background is rather nice, and the depth is better than normal, so you've got that going for you. C:

Initial impressions are good~

The right part of the sky, above the clouds, looks a lot more orange than the rest of the sky...was it originally like that, or was it modified somehow?
Also, the entire right corner is just kinda...gone. It's all the white-ness, I think. The lightning near there is faded too...

Heh, I'll wait for someone with a better eye and more patience to come and critique. But for the record, I DO like it.

The second one looks cool, but...I don't really like it. There's something which feels really amateurish about it.
Well, more specifially, the left side looks amateur-ish. Right side is alright, but the text that says "SHIV" looks like it was written with a mouse.
And...man, that guy's face is abnormally dark. Obviously it's in shadow, but when I looked at it [admittedly during night], it looked like he just had a big black blotch in place of a face.

I love the simplicity of this tag. The brush work, the pentooling, the text, the solid background- I love it.

Only thing I might not really like quite as much is the fact that Ichigo kind of has that weird texture on him that Kubo Tite likes to add on all his colored works, and there wasn't any attempt to recreate that on the green in the background. If you tried that, the whole thing would seem a lot smoother.

The clouds look kinda LQ in some places, like the top corners and part of the bottom on the left side. The bubbles don't really fit in on normal, try linear dodge. D: Effects are kind of minimal and the lightning doesn't really have enough glow. Instead of lightning, try the pencil tool + glow? The text is way too small for such a canvas and the textures running along the length of his arm look kind of weird, to me. :/

I really don't like this tag, you can do a lot better. :<

I don't like the two latest updates. The lady is a serious eyesore, and the colors are too desaturated-decontrasted for my tastes. The LP look for that piece isn't working out well either. There just something about the LP I really don't like.

And then the V for Vendetta one feels off as well. Like Sage said- way too sharpened. (Though some of your more recent stuff hasn't felt quite as bad, so I don't know why it's such a big deal...? Maybe I'm not paying attention...?) Other than the ugly oversharpened smudge~y stuff, I can't tell what's effect and what's stock. oAo; Other than the fact that the text on the poster feels really unnatural, so I feel like that just might not have originally been there? I dunno, I can't really tell what's going on in this tag, and you know... I've never been fond of commenting on things I don't like.

Whoever the guy is (GTO?) he's ugly. And since his ugly face is the focal, he makes the whole sig ugly. If you want to use an ugly character, make them either do something or at least have a badass attitude. An ugly face with blank expression and mint love bubbles around it is just... bad. Unless you're going for irony, in which case it's too subtle.

I like the bubbles and the colours as such, just not who they frame.

As for the tag itself, the canvas is too big for like the 3245234524x, and im not entirely sure why you have it split in two like that, esp since the space on the right is so empty .

The only thing holding it together is that cloud and those neat square effects, but that isn't enough of a reason to keep it. :/...the same goes for that fat scanline brush next to Nai's head. .__.

Text is too high, but i can see why it's there...it won't look good under all that white, perhaps a better color scheme would have helped?...or maybe a different stock?

i like it.. but i have on complaint (perhaps it's my monitor but :shrug: ).... the sheep in the 3rd panel is too dark... the nose/eyes gets lost... perhaps it's because it's over saturated? maybe wash out the colors just a tad bit (nothing crazy like what acid likes to do... but just bring it down a few notches...) and it would be absolutely effin' perfect.

Shiv, you don't suck. I suck at GFX. You have a featured gallery and over 1000 views.
But, on topic, that's a much nicer use of that...stock [?] than the LP you used it for. Text isn't the greatest, though, since it's kind of hard to read, and there's a super WHITE thing [part of a C4D?] that sucks attention from the dude and his feet.

The C4Ds on the right of that guy...and in other areas... it doesn't look good. :< The colors are kind of really boring, since most everything's the same color, and that white stuff isn't very good. >: I also happen to dislike border/text styles like that, but I generally dislike borders in general...so...:/

Anyways, you don't need to quit...what you need to do is learn how to use the eraser tool. D: Your C4Ds look like they do when you download them....they don't have to. Erase things to make them look how you want. Try different styles, like smudging or something. Read tutorials, even though you don't like to....download PSDs....do things different than normal. D: Oh, and, use the eraser tool....>___>

Or dark blue, if you want a more night-time feel...but not purple. D: Erase whatever you've got over his arm that makes it look so obscure, because it makes it look like it's not even a part of his body...his arm couldn't possibly go back that far. :< I'm not sure what the text says, either. This one is really cool, but somehow i get the feeling that the placement is all wrong...as in the focal is too close to the right, which in turn is messing with your flow. D: Brightening the tag was definitely the way to go~

The flow is good, it's just in the opposite direction in the tag, which brings it down for me a little. >;

Other than that i like it, the textures and/or pen tool work are awesome, and the whole tag has a generally funky look to it, and i like. <:

Interesting way to go on this one Shiv.

I know that particular stock where Zaraki came from and i liked the way you incorporated his reiatsu into the tag, im not sure about the lighting cause it seems a little bright all around, but i guess that's the point. xD;...maybe if you did a little bit of burning Zaraki would stand out a bit more?...The stock in the BG seems a little misplaced, but that aside this isn't bad.

Certainly not the best you've come up with, but enough to merit a comment cause it's Zaraki. xDDD

The style's fairly interesting but I think you could do better with it. Or maybe it's just my usual dislike of washed out colours. It seems a bit bland. Might look better on a dark background.

But. And it's a bit BUT. The text. HIV? I only noticed the hidden S after staring at the tag for a minute trying to decide what it had to do with the virus. Might want to do something about that.

Anyways. I like the idea with the two stocks, but for one, I think the smaller stock and bigger stock should have been switched; the smaller one is just much better-looking. Also painting over the clock/seal/whatever in the top corner of the small stock with white...would probably look better. D:

I like the color of the effects, but I'm not sure it meshes with Break. Maybe add a hue/saturation layer and erase over the stocks? I think blue and purple would look good. :/

The bottom right bugs me and I think maybe one or two more C4Ds could have been incorporated, but this is cool.

That last piece has major color, depth, and compo issues. You sharpen too much, imo. ;P Maybe work on your atmo a bit. You're not bad, though.
