lol, reaper isn't around now ^^ (edit: talk about him...)
It's not like he's always the first to make the thread either (but since he's often releasing the chapter himself...of course he makes the thread first >.>)
Anyway, good chapter!
We get to see more teams.
Ah, there is a country only from the world o ES21, it's weird (unless Militaria does exist...in that case I'm worried about my geographic skills...)
The french team...at leas the guy we saw doesn't look more rfench than the other charcters but oh well, at least, we are here as well ^^
And of course, Gaou had to pick the Russia it's not helping them at all >.>
And I wonder who's the guy we haven't saw from the American team...a QB? A Lineman?

That American guy with Panther must be a lineman. I mean, they already have an ace QB and RB, to match up with Hiruma/Kid and Yamato/Sena. His aura kinda gives off a feeling of strength IMO, so my bet is that he's an ace lineman.

Who was America's ace QB? Clifford was a running back... do you mean the guy that Panther fought to get interviewed? Harold or Henry, or something like that? When I first saw the guy on the cover of the chapter and again from behind in the strip club, I figured he must have been their QB. He was the one calling all the shots for the group and acted "kingly"...
Maybe that's just me...
I'm glad their first match up was against Russia though. That Lord Chainsaw guy was too much for me to handle... I can't wait to see his team even think they're gonna put some moves on the all-star strength line-up of Deimon. Gaou, Kurita, Banba, Agon... Man... They have no chance...

Nope, Clifford is a QB. The running back part was a mistranslation....

Oh okay. I get it now. So then maybe that guy was another RB, Panther's American competition on the team? He seems too stuck up and confident to just be some lineman... It seems like he should have a more significant role... But then again...

O-orz...shows I know so much about football teams...Dx I thought we only had Rugby teams...
I wonder if Agon is planning to let the original allstars team get completely crushed by the Russian team, so he can step into the field with the team that didn't get it and "crush" the competition single handedly to make himself look better?

Agon is arrogant but he's not stupid. If the entire starting lineup, which includes Gaou, Kurita, Yamato, Shin, Akaba, Kakei, etc.... all gets crushed by the enemy, is he honestly expecting to be able to win by himself?

but if Sena, Monta and the other receivers get crushed well...that leaves him as one of the few passing targets/runners left...

Well, France having a tem was a surprise as well, but I'm quite happy about it ^^ (it's usually football or rugby...not AF)
I wonder what Agon is thinking as well, he may think that by playing against the stronger, he may shine more? That's the only reason I can see (and they are going to be against a strong line in Russia, the one we saw seems stronger than Gaou or Kurita....)

Im sure the main reason why Agon let Gaou pick Russia was cuz that chainsaw guy said he was going to win the money. I mean didnt you see Agon's reaction when the dude said it suddenly? Agons just there for the money while Sena, etc. are there to go against the best. Im wondering though who the guy in bandages might be in the Japanese Football team, also that dude in the American team who acts like hes ownage.

I have to say something to this as there was a Finn there, Toni Häkkinen, and a Finnish team.
There are people playing American Football here, even a professional league, called Vaahtera Liiga(Maple League in English).
But that´s the only thing I have heard about it in here.
The arrogance of the American team is getting to me, I want them ground to dust.
And no, there isn´t a country called Militaria in the world, it is completely fictional.

When Japan loses in the finals vs X team (which im quite sure will happen). Hiruma/Sena/Monkey will get the 3 mill.

So all the Indian players have to wear turbans? T^T
Lone_ant
12-06-2008, 01:16 AM
Well, maybe all the players were Sikhs.. er..
What I want to know is, why weren't there any teams from Africa? Well I guess they don't have that many rugby players there, but seeing how the mangaka thinks of Black people as supermen *cough*racist*cough*, I was expecting at least a team from South Africa or something..
It would be funny if some other team defeats America,. say Mexico or something.. but meh, they already did that Anathema on a diffrent tournament already.
To everyone saying "I didn't no such and such country had a Football team." Just because it's in the manga, doesn't mean it's true. It could just be the mangaka wanted to put it in. I know for a fact that India doesn't have a team or anyone who plays it (though I was happy when I saw them in the tourney) but they're in the manga anyway... Just a comment.
Also, Gaou's bench press was stated at over 200kg (over 440 lbs). I didn't really search that hard, but the world record seems to be 1010 pounds. If that Russian player does have a record similar to that, I don't think Gaou could stop him. Maybe Gaou and Kurita together, but Gaou would probably refuse wanting a one on one (he called putting two linemen on one lineman "boring" and considered it unforgivable).

Not being rude here, but I don't really get what you find offending in those situations. I mean, Indians wearing turbans and Africans being depicted as someone with inborn physical skills. What's wrong with that? There's nothing insulting about those kind of things, so why tag it as racism?
For one thing, African-Americans have always shown their excellence in sports activities. It's not like they're taking anything away from anybody, it's just as it is. They're gifted, so being depicted as such doesn't constitute to racism.
As for turbans, it's just a piece of headgear, nothing more. It's not like they're putting horns on those people for the hell of it. It's not insulting, it's more like putting something that was kinda unique to their culture, just to distinguish it from something else. Again, it's too farfetched and call it as racism.
PS: Sorry for the off-topic comment. I don't like racism as well, but I just don't get why they suddenly called those things reference to racism.

Will the mangaka do something unexpected again?
During the Kantou tournament we all thought Seibu will make the final but it was Hakushuu.
Then this time, will there be another upset?
Though if there were to be an upset to USA, the team with the biggest possibility is probably Mexico or Korea since both this nation are BETTER than the others in terms of real life Amefuto.
As for Japan!! Their opponent at the semi final WILL BE Germany or Canada , Germany and Canada are real life powerhouse, not to mention their Professional league has been going on for more than 10 years.
But where's Austria?
They are strong too, teams from Austria won the Eurobowl 5 times in a row now.

I was thinking of that one as well, since he is one of those well-featured aces of individual teams in Japan. But if I'm to choose between Habashira and Harao, my bet would be for the Lizardman. But honestly, it's a 50/50 chance it's any of those 2.

Yeah, but I don't find those particularly insulting. They're just there for simple distinguishing features, that's all. It's not like they're actually pissing them off. And for Africans, you already said it yourself. And it's not just because they were slaves before. They just are most of the times physically fit. And it's not like they're belittling those of other origins. All in all, those were not references to racism.
PS. I have tons of Indian friends at work, and some of them wear turbans. But again, nothing insulting in wearing one. I even asked one from them as keepsake.

There are no things such as black people are naturally stronger, there is no evidence for this.
Ok you might think that for the last few Olympic 100M sprint was won by BLACK people so that makes black people physically stronger than normal human.
But that doesn't prove anything, if black people are so 'advanced', then during the Olympic, African nations will just sweep every single gold medal.

You didn't know?
Well Akaba is a fullback.
Fullback stands alongside or in front of the halfback, they sometimes take the ball and run.
But for most of the time, they sorta like open a path for the runningback during run, which means the speed requirement for fullback is just higher than average, but the strength has to be high.
Yamato's position for team Japan is fullback:

Actually, the position of Sena wasn't stated in detail.
His position is actually 'halfback', the one who always carry the ball, the other one is fullback who block any tackler coming the halfback's way.
Both fullback and halfback are called runningback because both position are the ones do the running from the back.

That opens up for alot of fun country references, like the Russians being overconfident war-addicts or something (yeah I know that is kinda shallow, but hey, its fun). I mean, are we even sure that the real life strength of each team will be reflected? Apparently America isn't even that good, and they're the powerhouse in this.

I don't think there is anyway America will lose, since in this tourney, they are the Teikoku Gakuen. Meaning that they're the team who always gets there, while maybe someone like Canada, maybe provide the upset as the Dinosaurs did.

It has been medically proven, it's something about the muscles in the leg being able to handle more lactic acid compared to a white mans legs.
Thus making the black person the better sprinter, I'm pretty sure I've read it somewhere.
And if this is true, then every sprinting competition should be won by black people (which they are)

The right block will probably go like this, USA will completely annihilate NZ (who talked **** about rugby > AMF), India will WTFPWN their opponents and then they get ownt by US, then US gets completely ownt by sweden/korea.

personally I think that the man in the bandages is Yamamoto Onihei, the captain from the Hashiratani Deers, it seemed to me like he may have become a major player, but it was all ended by the posidon, plus he was the guy that was supposed to be the best through hard work (shin was saying that he was good through constant training) so thats my idea.
I also have an idea for chuubo's special ability, I think its the chop block, when the play starts, he will dive at the linemans knees, making the other lineman fall down, when I played football, that was the specialty of a lot of the short guys both on my team, and the teams we played against. If it were that way, it would make a bit more sense to put him on the front line with the bruisers like Kurita. Thats just my opinion, I think it would make more sense, but knowing ES21, it will probably be another semi-supernatural ability :D

When you all wanna make a guess of who the bandaged guy is.
Please observe everything well, think of everyone's personality and attitude, who would be the one most likely to bandage himself up, observe the body figure.
Some of you simply guess........
But that's what makes guessing him fun :D

hmm, about the bandaged up guy...I really don't think he could be Harao or Unsui cause if you looked at the tryouts in ch. 308 he was shown doing sprints (as probably everyone was required to do) and was catching passes, or intercepting them, which was probably his forte considering the other candidates were shown playing their respective positions(Komusubi/Onihei blocking and Takami playing quarterback).
That guy could be Habashira if he was playing defense at the time, but with his outspoken personality why would he hide himself up like that??

The span of time is 3 months, Christmas Bowl is obviously on the 25th of december, and the time when they take off to New York is March so it's possible.

yeah, it'd be really cool if it was Yuki  He looks kinda menacing though (to me anyway :P), very unyuki-like...
And when do you think will he come on to the game? Obviously, he'll be replacing someone from the starting lineup. Because of stamina maybe, though this isn't like Deimon anymore who play both offense and defense so these guys aren't gonna be tired out so easily. Someone may get injured and he'll be the replacement, but it would really suck for that guy seeing as he got picked and all only to get injured like that. I kind of see Agon though getting kicked out of the team for making trouble and that's where the mummy guy comes in.
Thinking about it now...where do Takami and the others fit in here as well, if they did get accepted into the team. Special teams, maybe?

Too bad for you, since it's speed vs speed you'll just have to wait for more than 50 chapters.

As German I really had to laugh about "Heinrich Schultz" God, this name is so oldfashioned! And the guy looks so stereotypical, it's nearly too much. But unfortunately his ears are way too big compared to his nose.....
In fact, Germans are really good in American Football (I looked it up). But there is no "NFLE"; there was, but it dissolved. Anyway, who cares, the main thing is that the story is good and it looks like it's going to be very exiting!

Link for the record bench press: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlDWdfTAx8o
If Gao and Kurita can brake bones by touching there opponents and Gao is at (450 lbs ) and the russian is at ( 1000 lbs ) = a finger and a player snaps in two?

Hmm I don't think the world record in the world of ES21 is 1000 lbs, at most it'll be just at 600 or so.
And please check this out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bench_press
The 1000 lbs is the record for assisted bench press, I don't remember Kurita and the others did their bench press with anything or anyone assisting them.

i think agon brought all those guys with him to start his own team, i dont think he can but if he does than he is completely 100% guaranteed to be picked since he is definitely better than anyone on the rejects team, while it would be hard for him to get the prize money as a member of a team with sena, shin, yamato, etc

The world record for assisted bench press is held by Ryan Kennelly with a total weight of 1,075 lbs (489 kg)
The heaviest bench press without any equipment to assist is held by Scot Mendelson with a lift of 715 lbs (324.3 kg)
The heaviest drug tested bench press without any equipment to assist is held by Big James Henderson with a lift of 711 lbs
(Well GL Kurita/Gao :thumbup::thumbup:)

i think its gonna be hard for them to ever reach 711 lbs and that because those people that settled those records train for just that , their muscles are trained in a different way , and their muscle memory has different information.
anyway i wish them tons of luck :P

It's interesting to see the secondary players playing right off the bat. Otherwise most of them probably wouldn't be playing for the whole tournament.
Wonder what field was Yamato/Taka beaten in hmm.. Chess? lolz
