Hi!
This is my first time making an actual topic on these forums, so forgive me if I break something accidentally.
Anyway, I've been wondering for quite a while but...WHAT IS THE DUB BEING RELEASED TO??!?!!
Is it going to go directly to DVDs like some series do nowadays, or will Funimation give it out to someplace like Adult Swim for a TV airing?
I'm dying to know, I really want to see how they do the dub...and so far neither their official site nor ANN has anything to say on it, except ANN did have a little "(TV)" thing next to the series' name...
I was rather hoping that Funimation had some sort of dub teaser on their official site like they do for the Claymore dub, but all they have as a "video teaser" is just the first opening on DGM. I'm dying to know...I don't want to miss the first episode if it's released to TV...

I think it will start in the beginning of 2009. The actual date might be decided on before the year's end, to ensure viewers.
Although, in my country they just tell the dates a week before it airs. I don't know if it will be the same for DGM...
Edit: Oh. I think I misinterpreted. Sorry.
They might start the episodes on TV, and release DVDs soon after the airing. I don't know. I think when the date gets closer more information would come out. There are four more months, at least.

I know they roughly said early 2009, but waiting 4 months for news is like waiting on new manga chapters -- painful.

I hate that feeling...I just want to know who's actually voicing Allen.

Well...the reason they're waiting so long is because they're releasing the first 51 episodes at once, I think. The only person I KNOW is going to be in it is Vic Mignogna and he's playing an akuma. XP I'm trying to find more people, though. I'd like to see Komui, Kanda, and Lavi's voice actors.

Will I kind of hope that it does get to be on Adult Swim for a TV airing but I'm not that much into dubs and ever since that 4kids dub of One piece I have lost alot of hope in them.

I feel the same way, but dubs can still have a nice quality. I'm mainly referring to Dean Note, but Code Geass and Witch Hunter Robin have pretty decent dubbing too. Who knows? Depends on how skilled the voice actors are.

Wait, you KNOW?!?!?!??!?!
He's voicing an akuma? DANGIT! I was hoping he'd voice Allen, he'd be good at it, like he is with Ed.
Also, what's wrong with One Piece? As I recall, Funimation actually SAVED that show from the immoral hands of the demon known as Al Khan. I don't know how their re-dub of it compares to the shitty version done by 4Kids (I'm not a fan of OP), but it's probably much better than it was with horrid voices, edited footage, and racist editing.
They're releasing all the first 51 episodes at once? That means that we have to wait til ALL of those episodes are dubbed (which can take a while depending on the episode)...
Maybe we should all send e-mails to them asking if they'll release to TV...I'm considering calling them because my need to know is THAT strong >__<.

The dub of Death Note was one of the best and the Fuimation dub of One Piece is a 1000's times better then 4kids. Also was the first opening to DGM in english in the video teaser.

Ah, I didn't understand your post then. I thought you were saying that Funimation's dubs aren't good.
I don't know if that video teaser had an english song...the song itself has some english in it ("pain in the dark" and "don't cry" are the only phrases I know of), but I think the one on the site is the original one as it is in fandubs.

Wikipedia is the best.
I looked on Vic's page and found that he was voicing an akuma. I actually kinda wished he might've voiced Lavi, but now I don't care unless the guy has a humorous voice. Spike Spencer, anyone? (Actually...that might get annoying after a while, but it's fun to imagine!) Vic woulda been good as Allen, too, now that I think about it...but he got the lame part of an akuma...DAMN!
All they say (Wikipedia again!) is that it's coming out in early 09 and BECAUSE some episodes will take longer, they might release it sometime in March or something. VAs have enough time on their hands. XP They still have time, and we don't know how long of a time span there was between the recording started and the info getting out.

Well i thought you meant it was in full english like they are doing for the One Piece dub.

Funimation's releasing a DGM dub? Sweeeeeet. Thanks for informing. I can't wait.
Unfortunately, I'm not fond of dubs and I definitely don't expect a good one. There are definitely some voices that they'll never be able to bring out. >.>

Right now, it has a okay chance of being released on DVD, or aired on Adult Swim, Toonami, and i'm guessing Sci-Fi. Sci-Fi has picked up a couple of anime series recently. I'm saying it's odds are DVD, though.

So Vic is not voicing Allen? I thought he would of been great for that part since he did such a great job of Ed in FMA. Funimation should do ok I think, but it demends on who they get to do the voices.Oh well I am still interested in it.

Well, Funimation is really helpful about when the series is coming. http://funimation.com/dgrayman/
It used to say March 2009, but now it does not even say that..

The fact that Vic isn't voicing Allen makes me curious as to who is...I can't really think of any fitting people since I'm not familiar with many voice actors. Funimation does a decent job in general, so I think it'll be bearable.
echo 78: I think that they took the month down is because of a couple set-backs, so they were uncertain if they'd be able to make it on time or something.
I'd appreciate if they aired it on adult swim or something, I'd be so anxious to see all the episodes after watching all of them on one DVD.

If they honestly just release to DVD, I will be mad. I normally watch anime on TV, most of my spending money goes toward manga since it's cheaper than an anime DVD.
But then again, this is D.Gray-Man, which atm I'd probably be willing to make a few sacrifices so I can at least watch it even if it means no manga money.

That would go by how interested the are group thay are looking for because to me it would appeal more to a adult crowd. Young kids my not understand the story very will and the talks about killing all of humanity some parents mat not approve.

Which is why Adult Swim is perfect. Older teens and adults will understand it, that most of AS' audience.

If it is coming out on dub, I hope that it gets picked up for cartoon network and inyuasha gets dropped, I am tired of seeing the same ones over and over again.

I have fairly good confidence in their voice choices. The only ones I'm slightly worried about are Allen, the twins, and Lavi.
It would be nice if whoever does the voice of that one card thing (the one that Tykki carried with him when he was killing random people on a list) manages to do it almost as good as the original Japanese one was.
That voice is just awesome, XD.
I hope they get Crispin Freemen to do the voice of Cross, I really hope they maintain the comedic style of the Earls voice

Funimation's actors are pretty good if you compare them to 4Kids or something like that...I was actually hoping for Travis Willingham for Cross, if not Tyki...*prays that they don't screw up on Lavi and the twins* Pleasepleaseplease!
They might get a girl to do Allen, or Aaron Di-something, I can't spell his last name. Other than that though, I'm looking forward to this dub. It most likely won't be as good as the Death Note dub, but there's hope!
Kirvee

Well, if Aaron's voice is any deeper than it had been when he did Al (which was when he was like...12?), then he may be a good candidate. I haven't been able to hear how his voice sounds now-a-days, so I can't really give an honest opinion.
Travis as Cross? Hmm...he could do it, most likely...*imagines Cross with Roy's voice*Though a bit awkward...
And if they do get a girl to do Allen, it better be one with a decent deep voice. America doesn't tend to use girls for guys unless the guy is 12 or something.
I really want Vic to do Allen. So much. I can't take waiting to know who the heck is doing it and what it'll sound like! Hm...wonder who'll do Kanda...or Komui...wow, thinking of Komui's voice scares me slightly, XD.

I've seen the dub, up until episode 3.
I can get used to Allens voice, at first, I thought he should've sounded a little less whiny. But I'll get used to it
Lenalee's voice, great just fine.
Komui's voice, just fine
Reever, decent
Kanda's... lol holy crap. I thought they should've have swicthed Kanda's voice actor with Komui's. It's just kinda awkward to me
I cannot wait to hear how Krory sounds...

Lavi's voice actor is the same dude who does Train Heartnet from Black Cat. He's actually pretty good, one of my favorites.

IMO: For Tyki they seemed to hire the closest Crispin Freeman knock-off this side of wtf dub instead of hiring the other dub.
Allen is meh.
Wtf were they thinking with Cross' VA.
Kanda... sounds v.v.v. macho.
Komui is pretty fun...
Rhode's VA makes me wanna kill babies. When her and Allen are in the same room homicide will occur. D:
well it seems they changed to calling allen beansprout.

they killed tyki, cross, the earl, allen and kanda.... this is why i will never watch it in dubs...
