Well, the last thread ended on an exciting note with Acidrain proposing the idea that the little black mass of nothing in a jar may not have been Father, but Pride. He cites the fact that Pride did refer to himself as the original Homunculus, and the thing in the jar refers to himself as Homunculus.

ACIDRAIN: hmm...maybe he just CALLED himself humonculous and never really WAS one...or maybe pride is the only SUCCESFUL humunculous and father is a failed project...or maybe pride is FATHER'S first created humuculous? lol idk

I don't know... I think if anything, it can be said that if Pride was not the one in the jar he was definately the first Homunculus Father created. This whole time we're lead to believe that Father is the one running the show, but it could actually be Pride. Maybe Father is just some sort of catalyst, or a puppet for Pride.

What I'm also wondering is what exactly is Hohenheim... is he a Homunculus? But how could he be, he was able to reproduce, which surprised Father... *sigh* I can't wait for this next chapter!!

*Rika*

hoho mentioned that his master experimented on him a few times, mabye he was a failed homounculus and that mabye explains his weird body. or hohos master is father??? (...and "master" is his DAD.... XD)
ITS ALL SO CONFUSING!

mini hoho looks freakishly alot like ed

Yamasta
09-01-2007, 05:51 PM
He's even got the same height, I think very odd, even though he's his father. The only thing that confuses me is the whole father isssue, but I'm leaning towards Acid's opinion...

I wonder what the relation between Van Hohenhein and the Father is. The look exactly alike.

You'll find later in the anime that there are major differences between that and the manga.

SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT....

Ok! Here's my Black Mass theory... Acidrain has swayed me, I'm almost convinced now that the Black Mass is not Father, but Pride. Notice how the Black Mass seems to have that eye and creepy smile... didn't we see that same thing when we were first introduced to Selim as Pride?
If that's the case I'm wondering if it's actually Selim running the show, and not Father. I'm unsure on why exactly Father looks exactly like Hohenheim and whether or not Hoho is a Homunculus... certainly there is something different about Hoho, as shown when he took care of those bandits when he was traveling and also Father's surprise that Hoho had children.
So it is pretty much pointing to Hoho being a homunculus, but we shall see.

Other issues: Mustang knows Selim's Pride. What next? Will Hawkeye be in danger for it? The whole thing with Kimbley and Ed's orders, and poor Al starting to reject the armor. So much going on!!!

Pansori

Yes, but I have faith more people will come once the new chapter comes out. :)

I wonder why it isn't as popular though... the anime was huge, so you'd almost expect the manga to be as well. I dunno...

J.T.
09-03-2007, 06:06 AM
It is popular, some of us just don't know what else is to be said... There, you made me spam...:D

Pansori
09-03-2007, 06:18 AM
I really don't think it's that popular. In Japan, I know it's extremely popular, but the manga in the States does not seem very well known. I know at my regular forum we get people who come on quite often who are not even aware that FMA has a manga.

And judging from the beginning of the last thread... most people have seen the anime, but have not read the manga.

Acidrain

i wanna kno wats sloth's power is and when we see the new lust and gluttony father promised

Acidrain
09-04-2007, 12:11 AM
did gluttony die? ...i guess he did...and havent we already seen sloth?

Pansori
09-04-2007, 01:46 AM
Gluttony died, but Father said he would ressurect him with all of his old memories intact. And we did see Sloth... he's an abnormally muscular and yet super lazy... thing.

I don't remember Father saying anything about bringing a new Lust, though.

Acidrain
09-04-2007, 01:49 AM
sloth...is my favorite humunculous...nuff said

Pansori
09-04-2007, 04:36 AM
I just don't see the appeal of Sloth. But I read that a lot of people like him. I loved Greed and Lust. I want them to bring Lust back, I was bummed when Mustang incinerated her.

Acidrain
09-04-2007, 04:38 AM
Its just...sloth is my kinda guy...bored...lazy...crazy strong...not really enthusiastic about anything...does what hes told...etc. I LIKE HIM! Oh, and i hate lust lol

[NOONE]
09-04-2007, 05:50 PM
Yeah well Greed is kinda funny.
Can I eat him? haha

Matimac
09-04-2007, 06:06 PM
I hate Greed for controlling Ling. Ling was a cool guy, I hope he will hijack Greed.
Lust is dead, and I hope it stays that way. But I think Envy is the worst of them... So damn ugly...

Acidrain
09-04-2007, 06:42 PM
haha...i hate how they always make dudes look like girls in mangas...and the other way around

Hito

I like pride the best he is the original but i hate he's in some punk kid body

Pansori
09-04-2007, 10:21 PM
Envy is a lot more tolerable in the manga than he is in the anime. He's an angsty brat in the anime. I like him in the manga though, but I love jerks.
And I like Ling as Greed... I loved Greed and I loved Ling, so putting them together was so delicious... like s'mores. :D

Selim had us all fooled, the little jerk. He seemed so innocent, and now he's just creepy, and not the good creepy, like Gin. Anyway, my money is on Pride being the one who is actually running the show.

Another theory: maybe it's Father who's the slave and Hoho who is in the flask? Maybe they went their separate paths and switched identities? o_O

perhaps the fma manga is too complicated for some manga readers...like J.T. lol jk jk

Just seen this... Tsk, tsk... FMA is my favourite (even better than Hellsing), I just have nothing to add to vigorous discussions between you and Pansori :D...

Pansori
09-06-2007, 07:15 PM
LOL, JT... I usually do the long drawn out talking and Acid just says... "uh-huh... I dunno, dude..." ;)

FMA bumped both Bleach and Naruto out of my top manga spot. I think it helps that it's 40+ pages and it covers a lot of storyline in one chapter, while raising more questions.
Naruto is not doing it for me because it has become The Sharingan Show, but that may change with this new thing with Jiraiya.
And Bleach is pissing me off because this new arc is too similar to the last.

I wish I had more to add, but I think I already stated all my FMA theories for the next chapter...

1. Little Hoho is from Xerxes, the city that Envy is composed of.
2. Little man in the flask is Pride and he's running the show.
3. Little man in the flask is actually Hoho, and the Hoho we saw in the last chp. is actually Father, and they later switched identities. o_O That's my crackpot theory.
4. Hawkeye is going to be in danger, and she may die. T_T You just know Selim's going to find out she spilled the beans.

Acidrain
09-06-2007, 09:24 PM
umm...i cant think up any theorys...ummmmmmmmm...actually, i have a question, do you think pride is the strongest?

Raijuu
09-06-2007, 09:28 PM
who was pride btw? and meh i like greed better but pride is a very big one too.... i mean its a really important one so maybe....

Acidrain
09-06-2007, 09:32 PM
pride is salem, wrath's son. He does stuff with shadows

Raijuu
09-06-2007, 09:34 PM
oh yeah that kid.... anyway mmm.... yeah he is important and will be i believe

Acidrain
09-06-2007, 09:36 PM
do you think hes stronger then wrath? I mean...he IS the orginal humunculous but...idk

Raijuu
09-06-2007, 09:39 PM
..... who knows.... you know "original" doesnt mean he is the best..... but then again wrath's ability is cooler than that kid's.... evn though the shadow thing is also cool.... maybe he could beat wrath with it...

vicious55555
09-07-2007, 02:03 AM
i think the new greed can beat wrath now the prince already stood his own with him with out the power of greed now he has greeds power he would crush him

J.T.
09-07-2007, 07:12 AM
I already mentioned this elsewhere, pride is the first sin (in the Bible), so, yeah, I think he will be the strongest... And that shadow thing he does is cool...

Raijuu
09-07-2007, 09:08 PM
he might be the strongest in the future.... i mean we havent seen what he can really do and greed.... well greed is my favorite one :D

Pansori
09-08-2007, 12:22 AM
Greed is made of win. Greed was cool as Greed, and even cooler with Ling. I loved Lust, she was so heartless, not all emotional and sappy like in the anime. I want Lust back.
Don't know enough about Pride to say yay or nay, but just from what he has said of himself... that he is the original homunculus, that he is on a different level as everyone else, I would assume he's pretty powerful.
And I agree with Vicious, I think the new Greed can stomp Bradley.

flame ninja
09-08-2007, 01:09 AM
4. Hawkeye is going to be in danger, and she may die. T_T You just know Selim's going to find out she spilled the beans.

no she aint gonna die b/c remember what pride told her what would happen if she said anything about it?? he said the people close 2 her would die or something really close 2 that and yes i bet he will find out *sigh*

Pansori
09-08-2007, 01:50 AM
That's true, but the only one real close to her is Mustang, and they won't kill him anytime soon (I think they need him for the sacrifice thing). They may kill the dog.
I hope they don't kill Black Hayate. T_T
For that matter, I don't want anyone to die...

But I think there was a theory in a previous thread that Hawkeye would die in the process of saving someone like Mustang and then Mustang would admit his love as she died in his arms. Soooo saddd...

Winry Chan
09-12-2007, 10:59 AM
I hated the anime. I liked the L'arc En Ciel's Ready Steady Go opening...but that's about it.... and the animation flows smoothly. It's just...the plot. And the way they totally butcher the relationships (AND THE HOMUNCULI!)

But Rose? Oh god... Holy Mother..... and then have her pair with Ed? I personally hate that Rose is the last person Ed sees of his own world before he sacrifices hisself to save Al.

Well, here are the spoilers (text) for the chapter that I saw on LJ.

We start with a young Hohenheim teaching other slaves a few words, writing them into the ground. Their master catches them and yells at them for wasting time and takes note of the words on the ground. Hohenheim admits he knows a little about writing and reading and requests that he become his master's assistance.

Time passes and Hohenheim is studying under his master. His lifestyle has improved and he has a talk about life with the homunculus in the flask. Flasky says since he got his blood from Hohenheim he could call him dad which makes Hohenheim joke about having a kid before having a family. Flasky says he'll die if he leaves his flask but wishes he could be free.

Master comes for Flasky and says he has an appt with the king of the country. The king wants to know if there is a way to gain eternal life. Flasky takes a shine to the old guy and says he'll tell him a way.

A giant irrigation ditch project is started around the country. The people think it's for their benefit. Meanwhile, different cities are being wiped off the map in a systemic pattern (5 major spots along the circle) with no survivors. Hohenheim doesn't know about the plan and comments that what's happening is horrible.

After a long period of time (not specified...) the ditch is complete and its time for the king to get his reward. He feels kinda bad about all those people dying but the master says its for the good of the country. They start the ceremony and a much older (more like how he looks in the main story) Hohenheim attends holding Flasky saying its the start of a new era.

But creepy stuff comes out of the ground and everyone starts to suffer and kill over in the streets. Hohenheim yells at Flasky to tell him what happened. Flasky says he used the blood in him from Hohenheim to open the door. A few pages of scary end-of-world pictures follow. When Hohenheim comes to his senses, he finds everyone is dead except him and what appears to be a scary copy of himself. Hohenheim comes to realize it's actually Flasky and tells him to explain what happened.

Flasky says in return for Hohenheim's blood, he's given him a name, knowledge, and a body that will never rot in exchange for the lives of everyone in the country. Flasky says he received a share of the benefits too. He thanks Hohenheim for releasing him from the flask and Hohenheim has a major breakdown.

Jump to the present on a train where we see Izumi and husband talking to Hohenheim. They make nice chitchat but Izumi has a coughing fit. Hohenheim says he knows a bit about medicine and that Izumi is not doing well and sends the husband to get a doctor. While he is away, Hohenheim questions Izumi about if she's seen the door and what happened. It's also reveiled that Hohenheim has studied a bit about Shin's method of alchemy. He confirms that Izumi is not working for the state and then punches her in the stomach area causing blood to flow out and stuff. Husband comes back to save her but we see that Izumi is feeling better and there is no sign of injury.

Hohenheim says he can't bring back the organs that were taken away but with some maintainance her blood flow could be improved. Hohenheim basically tells her she still needs to be around to stand and fight and Izumi asks what exactly Hohenheim is.

Last page has Hohenheim saying

"I'd like to say that I am a monster but I'll tell you the truth. Van Hohenheim is a philosopher's stone in human form."

end chapter
Now that makes complete sense to me, and explains why those two look alike. I don't understand how Hoho is a philospher's stone?!?

It's very similar to the anime. I read an omake once where Arakawa said that she basically handed over her ideas to the anime guys.

*Rika*
09-13-2007, 08:13 AM
yeah, she even gave away the ending too
but hopefully the ending for the manga wont be like anime. the anime ending wasnt all that good. they just left winry behind:mad:

Arakawa gave the ending away?! So that means... the anime's ending could be what happens in the manga?! But the parallel universe thing...AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!

Raijuu
09-13-2007, 07:59 PM
meh.... i think IF the manga is going to be like the anime it will have the same ending but the manga will keep going because in the anime All and Ed stayed on both sides of the gate and they wanted to meet again so maybe in the manga they just keep it going....

Pansori
09-13-2007, 08:46 PM
I think the manga and anime may have similar elements, but hopefully they won't do the coming into our world bit. Hopefully Arakawa had a back up ending.
And I just don't see the manga ending as sadly as the anime did.
Ed and Al deserve a resolution! ^_^

*Rika*
09-14-2007, 12:35 AM
i dont think there will be a paralel world in the manga since the truth behind the gate is a freaky whispy entity or knowledge (cant be bothered to find out which is correct) and truth in the anime is another world behind the gate, or that lives are used from that world for alchemy. so i am confident that the ending will be different... surely...

Raijuu
09-14-2007, 12:40 AM
thats good thinking :D but in the anime they also say that when you see the gate you gain a huge amount of knowledge but thats not really what its behind the gate..... or so they said... its just something you see in the gate... lol anyway what i mean is in the anime they just screwed it up because they first said it was the gaining knowledge and then they just come out with this other world.... so dont be too sure they might do the same in the manga

*Rika*

Thoughts real quick: Sorry, I wrote this on my regular board and I was in fangirl mode.

Just read the scantalation... I knew from spoilers he was the stone, but OMG, it's so crazy!!! The stone that they've been seeking for all this time has been right under their noses!! Now I don't get some things... didn't Hoheinheim once say that he works for the State as a state alchemist? I could have sworn he did... I wonder what his status is with them... and did Father all along plan for Hoho to become the stone?!! It's so confusing! And what role could Hoho want Izumi to play???
And what the hell is he up to anyway? How long has it been since we've last seen Hoho, and now he suddenly pops up.

Young Hoho is so cute!!! Oh my goodness... but I think I prefer him with glasses. :p

Informative chapter, and yes it does feel like the series is slowly coming to an end. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Arakawa said she would go to about a 100, so we still have a little time left.

But it really feels like it's all starting to build up.

INSANE chapter. Well, good chapter. It starts closing up now, and yes still a good plot.
Hoheinheim works on-and-off as a state alchemist is understandable, as the top of power is Father know him too well. I think Father told Hoheinheim to join his evil plan but got rejected, but still give Hoh a title so Hoh can use the benefit if he wants.
Hoheinheim hated his own body and tried to stop Father's evilness.

Btw, Hoh is Father's father, so Ed & Ai are Father's brothers :D.

Hi everyone !

Chapter 75 is awesome. There's one thing I don't understand... Father used the lives of the people of Xerxes to get himself a body and to make Hohenheim immortal, right (He certainly has plans for Hoho, by the way. You don't give someone immortality just for fun.) ? But isn't Xerxes supposed to have been destroyed when Envy was created ?
Unless Father somehow kept all of their souls inside of him and used them to create Envy later on... Oh well...

Then... the Philosopher's Stone is supposed to be all powerful, but Hoho still couldn't heal Izumi because it was the price she paid for her sin. That explains why he could'nt give Ed and Al their bodies back, but I wonder... Is he some kind of incomplete Stone ? Or have Ed ans Al been wrong all along, and the Stone could never have saved them ? That's not impossible, considering that they're now turning to Xing's alchemy, but still... I wonder.

And I agree, it's probably "the beginning of the end" for the manga, but there are still so many questions left unanswered ! Does anyone know when chap. 76 is supposed to be out ?

perhaps immortality is the only ting available to hoho? Maybe he needs someone to awaken the powers inside him or something...

Yes... But that would raise yet another question : how did he get his powers in the first place ?

The whole thing's so weird... Because, you don't let a Philosopher's Stone wander around, do you ? Hoho spent years in Resembool, had Father wanted to find him, he would have. Plus, he seems to know quite a few things about what's going on, he warned Pinako and Izumi... But Father seems to not care at all about him. Heck, he didn't even know Hoho had kids. As if he wasn't "good enough a Stone" after all and was dicarded from his plans...

But despite all this, we see in chap 73 (I think) that Hohenheim is still part of Father's plan... So weird and twisted !

By the way... In chap 40, we are told that someone came to Xing from the west centuries ago and helped them develop their alchemy. Could that someone be Hoho ?

Yes, i've also been questioning Hoho's relationship with Xing and it's alchemy. He was familar enough with it to heal Izumi, so I don't think it would be too much of stretch to assume that Hoho was the western visitor that introduced Xing to alchemy.

Well, this is a stretch... but I'm thinking that Father wants to make another stone, and place it in the sacrfices? I'm not sure, because Hoho was standing in the middle of the circle, and he became the Philopsphers Stone. He has each of the sacrifice strategically placed in the circle, so maybe he needs to create more stones and sacrifice for... what? hmmm, world domination?

...Lord, I hope not...

Syolen

I don't know... Apparently Sloth is digging/drawing a transmutation circle all around Amestris... Marcoh said they wanted to use the population of the country to create a huge Philosopher's Stone (Why, though ? We don't know...), and Envy told him he was almost right... The Sacrifice must be yet another different thing. Probably related to it, yes, but still different.

I think I remember Lust saying that they could make Mustang open the Gate, and another Homonculus (was it Envy or Gluttony ?) said that Glutonny's stomach was a fake Gate and that Father wanted to create one for himself...

So what, create a Stone with the people of Amestris, and then use it to make that Gate ? And those who are in for the Sacrifice would be the ones to activate it or to help transmuting the Stone (like some kind of catalyst) or something...

I don't think it would be for world domination though, because 1/ it's waaaay too cliché for Arakawa to do something like that (I hope...) and 2/ what's the point of ruling the world if you've killed everyone ?

Pansori
09-17-2007, 04:42 AM
See, I was wondering when Mustang starting fitting into the sacrifice picture, because I couldn't remember. The last I recall was they were wanting to use Marcoh as a sacrifice, but then he went AWOL with Scar.
I'm also wondering where and when the homunculi fit in... if Envy was created from the dead souls of Xerxes, was he created right then when the town was destroyed? But how could that be, since Pride claimed to be the original Homunculus? Or did Father somehow seal away the souls in something and used it at some other point to create Envy?
Honestly, I'm a little confused on the stone thing. There's so much going on, sometimes I lose track. Wasn't Ed ordered to do something as well that had something to do with the circle Sloth is building? I can't remember...

Also, I really don't think (at least I hope :D) Arakawa will go down the WORLD DOMINATION route. I think she's really tried to make FMA not as cliche as other shounens, and if she did that it would be pretty disappointing.

So one question is, if Father is attempting to make the Gate, to what end would it be for?

But it's funny how it's all coming together... Hoho and Izumi suddenly popping up (after a long hiatus), and we know that they are two of the sacrifices. I think things are going to start boiling over real soon.

Syolen
09-17-2007, 07:46 PM
Totally agree with you, Pansori !

I don't know... We've seen that Father can control alchemy and neutralize it already, although Xing's alchemy still worked. That made me wonder... since Hoho knows Xing's alchemy and is a Philosopher's Stone, could he be the one to stop/destroy Father ?

And with all these souls he seems to be carrying around, Father could be related to the Gate somehow...Like, could he be one of these weird black beings living inside it ? That could explain why he can control alchemy... We don't really know how he was created after all, we're just told it took Hohenheim's blood.

And I have a feeling that if he disappears, it will affect the Gate and alchemy somehow, and Ed and Al will be able to recover their bodies much more easily...

I think if anyone destroys Father, it will be a combined effort of Al, Ed, Hoho, and possibly Mustang... but definately the first three. That's just my wild guess.

I have to admit, I wa a tad disappointed how little we saw of Hoho's master. After all, it may have been Hoho's blood he used to give life to the shadow, but it was the Master himself that put the shadow in the beaker (at least, that's what I'm assuming). If anyone was messing around with the gate, dabbling in the infancy of alchemy, I would say it's the Master. And we never know, he can pop up later in the manga, and have a bigger role than what we expected.

Now we know that Al's soul is quickly rejecting the armor... Al is going to have to return to his body and quickly. It kind of seems easy enough... the only reason Al's body didn't go with Ed is because Ed wasn't Al. So what they have to do is get Al's soul to somehow go through the gate, retrieve his body, and get back through the gate alive. Woo! Mouthful. So how do they get Al through the gate?

And I have a feeling that if he disappears, it will affect the Gate and alchemy somehow, and Ed and Al will be able to recover their bodies much more easily...

Why do you think this?

Syolen
09-18-2007, 02:10 AM
Why do you think this?

It was just a random thought (I have a lot of these :D )... But still, were Father destroyed, all the souls he's been carrying around would be realeased. And that would still be human transmutation, wouldn't it ? So it would summon the Gate. And since there would be A LOT of souls, all of them rushing toward it... Ed and Al could be dragged along and use this opportunity to retrieve their bodies. Like I said, just a random thought.

And I'd like to know what the Truth "thinks" about all this. Father is a threat to it after all.

And there's still something we don't know and that could (maybe) change a lot of things : what's written in Scar's brother's notes.

Pansori
09-18-2007, 03:37 PM
That's a pretty good idea. It's logical in the line of the story. But we know that Father probably has an abundance of souls within him... if he were to die and it would summon the Gate I would imagine all hell would break loose, and it would be Xerxes all over again. What I mean is, such a grandscale of souls coming in, I would imagine that Ed and Al wouldn't be the only ones dragged in... probably the whole state. Which is Father's intentions, anyway, I think. :D Maybe I'm thinking too much into it.

And there's still something we don't know and that could (maybe) change a lot of things : what's written in Scar's brother's notes.

See, there's so much that goes on in FMA sometimes I forget key points! I think Arakawa throws it out to us, waits a few months until it's in the background, and then brings it up again. From what Scar and Marcoh have said... and the flashback of Scar's brother.... we know that Scar's big bro stumbled upon something wonderful. Something that is probably a key element in helping the Elrics and (possibly?) defeating Father.

Also, I'm guessing Hoho will eventually come to terms with what he is, but die in the end.

Syolen
09-18-2007, 09:38 PM
What I mean is, such a grandscale of souls coming in, I would imagine that Ed and Al wouldn't be the only ones dragged in... probably the whole state.

That's right... Point taken ! Ed and Al wouldn't be the only ones. Thousands would be dragged in, and probably killed (how do you escape the Gate when you're not an alchemist ?).

So... I don't think Ed and Al, or any other "Good Guy" for that matter, would let this happen. The brothers said they didn't want anyone else to die because of them. They won't try to get their bodies back if it means the whole country will be destroyed...

Oh, another random thought (told you, I have a lot of these... :D). Envy draws his energy from the souls oh Xerxes inhabitants, right ? Edward used it to get out of Gluttony's stomach. It opened the Gate, so it was human transmutation. Maybe Al could use it too to get his body back... Although I don't think Envy would agree...

Envy's different from Lust, Wrath and Ling/Greed (we don't know avout Sloth and Pride yet). The others just have a Stone, not people's souls. I highly doubt Arakawa did that for fun.

And yes, they probably won't come out of it safe and sound. Not all of them at least (that would be a fairy tale ending, and FMA is anything BUT a fairy tale). Hoho could die... And Marcoh too... And I wouldn't be surprised if Ed were stuck with automail in the end. I know he and Al promised they would get their bodies back together but... It's just a weird feeling I have...

I thought about that, too. And it would be an easy way for Al to get his body back! The only problem is that there's no way in hell that Envy would agree to it. The Envy we've seen in the manga has even less emotions than in the anime. At least in the anime he was all angsty, and just wanted his daddy's love... so far in the manga he's just a sociopath.
Also, when Ed went through the Gate and we saw Al's body, where the hell were Ed's limbs, lol? You would think they'd just be hanging out on the other side waiting for him, like Al was waiting for his soul.
Also, do we know for sure that Envy doesn't have a stone? I know he's made up of the souls, but does he not need a stone to at least sustain his life? o_O

And yes, they probably won't come out of it safe and sound. Not all of them at least (that would be a fairy tale ending, and FMA is anything BUT a fairy tale). Hoho could die... And Marcoh too... Well, Arakawa did say in an omake that she handed everything over to the anime people, including the original ending. Which isn't surprising that some of the recent events that are in the manga parallel the anime (the stone being in human form, the use of a city for a circle, etc). I imagine that Marcoh will probably be as disposable as he was in the anime. But I really do think Al will get his body back (for the sake of fanservice, at the least) but whether Al will get his limbs back is what's questionable to me.

On another note, what I'm needing in the manga right now is a Ling/Ran Fan moment. I was bummed when she left. She needs to come back and save her Prince!

That's right. But I think she'll change the ending. Even just for the sake of not-doing-the-same-thing-all-over-again. That would be choosing the easy way, and as far as I know she's NEVER chosen that way. There's a chapter (can't remenber which) where we're told how alchemy works in Amestris, and it doen't involve the energy of people dying on the other side of the Gate. So I think (hope) the manga wil have a different ending.

Besides, Winry and Ed are supposed to end up together (and they better do  ! Unless... Unless Arakawa kills Winry ? Oh God... She wouldn't do that, would she ? Oh God...) and there's no way that can happen if they're worlds apart ! :D

Hm... Sorry about that... :D

We agree on that one :bigsmile If Al doesn't have his body back, their whole journey would have been pointless. As for Ed... Like I said, it wouldn't surprise me were he stuck with automai in the end.

Yeah, you're right, Rika, it does look like their is an age difference. Or maybe just a growth of facial hair, lol? I dunno, hard to say... but what you said afterwards (about passing souls on to Ed and Al) I'm not sure. You would think that Hoho would pass something along to the boys, since he is the Stone. I remember Father was very surprised to hear that Hoho was able to procreate, so maybe there's something special about them that they are not even aware of? Hmmm...

Syolen: I also think Aarakawa changed up the ending. In the omake she referred to what she gave the anime as the "original" ending, which implies there's more than one. But I have faith that she'll do something awesome as well. Of the mangas I read FMA is the only one that has consistently impressed me with the storyline and character development. Yes, there will be a new Miyazaki movie, but it won't hit U.S. theaters until 2009. :( Supposedly it's his swan song, so I must view it in theaters!!!

Anyway, I usually reread the chapter around this time as well. :D I haven't gotten around to it because I was cramming for a Hinduism test, but now that's over with I can move on to more important things. ;)

I hate the idea of Kimbley dying... sociopaths are so hot, and Kimbley's one of my faves. But what I hate even more is the idea of Hawkeye dying, but I know a lot of people are leaning on that, including myself.
I'm hoping that Arakawa will provide us with some fanservice and let it end with Mustang and Hawkeye happily in each others arms. :D

I'm finding that I like the manga a lot more than the anime. It's more in depth, and there are fewer loose ends. I hope it ends strongly and doesn't get confusing like the anime did.

Well, it's not over yet, so we'll see how the sadness thing goes. But yeah, the manga seems to have more comedy, although it does have its moments (Hughes death was very well done).

And yes, the manga is much more in depth. One of my favorite parts was the flashback to the Ishbalan War, which I thought was very well done. Especially the little details, like when Ed swore he was going to make the State democratic, and then Hawkeye reminded him that the downside to that is that she, Mustang and all their peers would be viewed as war criminals for following orders. I thought that was an interesting point to bring up, and something that could have been looked over.

Totally agree with you, Pansori ! The manga has much more depth and character developpement than the anime, and a more complex plot. AND it still manages to be fun and entertaining. FMA rocks, period !:D

A little over two more weeks until the next chapter comes out. Right about now is when I start getting real antsy. Anticipation kills me.

Syolen: Being that FMA was my gateway to mangas, I have a special place in my heart for it. :) But I've noticed that with the other mangas that I read they go through slumps where they're just plain boring (Bleach is at that point right now) but FMA has consistently held my interest. That makes it extra awesome. :D

I think manga in general cant really make you cry. it can make you gasp and get you angry. you cant hear their quivering voices ect when peeps are about to die and there isnt as much atmosphere i guess. manga's still great though

the fma plot is way better in comparison to the anime

I feel the same as Pansori regarding FMA. I first saw it on Cartoon Network and thought damn that's f'ing sad...poor kids. Then I was addicted. Aside from it being short and tragic the anime bore some cool tunes. The best by far is Brothers :). We don't know what she will do regarding the manga as she gave creative room to the anime people to do the anime. This is a grim story and she will probably write it out as grim with hope. So we will be in for a rollercoaster of sorts.

Oh Pansori noticed you went from Mustang to Ed :P.

Yeah, after 500 posts I thought my avatar was in need of a change. :D

When I first came to these forums I was surprised to see how few people liked the anime. Although I wish it was more canon, I loved the anime as well as the movie. In fact, I think the anime alone I would rate as a 3 out of 5, but with the movie included, it bumps it to a solid 5. The only disapppoinment was how Winry was just cast aside. A big complaint among fans was that the brothers did not get to go home, but I was just glad to see them together in the end. :)
And FMA does have one of the best soundtracks. Brothers always makes me tear up, and Rewrite is just so catchy.
As for how the manga will end, I don't know. I don't think it will be a hunky dory ending, I think much like the anime it will end in a bittersweet fashion. I foresee a lot of deaths.

Yes, cool avatar, Pansori ! :D

The anime got me totally hooked. Try to imagine, even the dub was good (I saw the French one) ! The movie's really good too. I like it that it doesn't have a fairy tale ending, because it wouldn't be realistic, although I was disappointed at how Winry was left behind. I mean... "I guess it's goodbye for good now" ??? What the hell, she belongs with Ed !

As for the soundtracks, they're beautiful. The movie version of "Brothers" is just... woah. Wonderful. So is "Wakare No Kyoku" (does anyone know what the title means, by the way ?). And I love "Lost Heaven".

And I agree, the ending of the manga probably won't be a "happy ever after" one. It wouldn't fit the story.

Thank you! I noticed your new avatar, too, I like what it says. Is it suppose to be an FMA character? I kind of looks like Ed.

Oh, the french dub was good? I watched the subs and dubs, but FMA is the only anime that I can think of that I prefer the Eng dubs over the subs. And I almost never think that of anime or films. But when they dubbed FMA they just did a really good job. I was reading that there was one point when Ed was suppose to be crying, and the voice actor was really crying. So cool! I googled Wakare No Kyoku and it said a loose translation is "Song of Parting".

Yes, it's Ed, from chap. 43.

The French dub was pretty good, yes. Better than others I've seen at least^^ I haven't seen the English version of the anime, but the one of the movie's great. Ed's voice's really cool !

And thanks for the translation !

i must say, i absolutely hate the voices (well some of them) in the english anime. when i first watched it was only in japanese and although i dont speak japanese, XD i had subtitles on and i loved those voices. Eds voice in the english version made me cry. it just wasnt right. hehe.

and whoever saw it in a cinema, Youre SO lucky! i wish i could see it big screen. ah thatd rock.

Well, one reason I think the anime sucked was because they changed a few timelines, switched things around, then, later in the series, completely took out all the comedy and we were left with ANGST!

And since I'm an EdxWinry fan, I basically hated the last episode and the movie. (Why is the last person he sees in his own world ROSE?! Then when he comes back, sure he blushes when Winry hugs him, but then - nada.)

And I think someone asked where to download the anime from. I downloaded them from

http://www.satancity.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=619&highlight=full+metal+alchemist

They have both the dubbed and subbed. The dubbed, I think, you can just download them. The subbed, however, you have to create an account for (and it's free, so don't worry). They're all there, so have fun!

Back on subject, I hated the fact that Hoho was a "host body" that he and Dante were switching into and out of. I also hated that plotline. I also hated Gluttony's english dub voice. I also hated that they switched Wrath's name to Pride and made Wrath a little kid. I also hated that they made Sloth Trisha. I also hated how Envy was Ed's half brother. I also hated that they totally wrote marcoh off and didn't mention him until the final two episodes. I also hated how Scar's brother was insane.

So yeah. I hated the anime. And I watched the entire thing, just to make sure of how I felt, and that only increased the loathe. So please don't go "I bet you haven't even seen it!", because I hate having to repeat myself.

Oh. And if you like the anime, this post is in no way intended to offend you. I'm just expressing my feelings on it. :D

Tata.

Oooh, so much hate, ktk333 and Winry-Chan !

I didn't see the English version of the anime, but I like Ed's voice in the movie alright. Guess it's the same one ?

As for the plot itself... It's sad and dark and angsty and creepy, but I like it. ^^ Envy's being Ed and Al's half brother explains why he so wants to kill Hohenheim and why he follows him through the Gate.
And well... Since Homonculi are created when a human transmutation fails, it's logical that there is a Homonculus double of Trisha.
That's what I like about the anime : things make sense. The scientist in me likes that :D

But something I totally, definately, absolutely did NOT like was the ending of the movie. I'm an EdxWinry fan too so... yeah. Damn Ed's sense of duty !! Hopefully they WILL end up together in the manga. **begs Arakawa-sama**

Oh, by the way... Next chapter should be out next thursday, shouldn't it ?

FMA anime begged many anime awards lately. But the dubbed episodes disappointed me somehow. The voice actors were okay, but the accent didnt fit at all in the characters. And yes ofcourse, switching the events, introduciing new random characters was a drawback for the anime. I didnt see a reason what was the point of starting the anime when they didnt have the capability of running it. Mixing everything, deviating from the storyline and random people made me lose my interest in the anime.

Hmmm I would said on fullmetel Alchimest its Alright though,Can get you in tears, Angry,Laughing. All at once the end was sad I heard since youtube or crunchyroll doesn't have the last episode :/ I"ll think of going to the manga sooner or later. But I still think Ed is funny when he gets called a shrimp and he starts screaming at the other person. Whats that one girl name with blonde hair? I forget but I just start giggleing at her when she does something funny.....K I"m done lol

Winry Rockbell. XD While the her anime version is really hyper, her manga side takes a serious turn around chapter 46 (Chapter 47 is my favorite chapter, btw; three guesses why). I like the serious side of her, her and Ed both; they are maturing as the series progresses, and I admire Winry's strength at being able to keep herself going even after encountering Scar (and allowing herself to be his "hostage"!). So basically, she rocks.

I can't wait for the next chapter!! Any speculations?
I have one, maybe not for the next chapter, but in the coming ones.
o Something happens to the group headed for Briggs and Ed keeps staring at the earrings Winry left in his care. He remembers her promise of not crying until he and Al get their original bodies back, and he vows to return the earrings no matter the cost. Of course, that's just me being EdxWinry. XD
o Another: The group headed for Briggs does make it there, and find all the soldiers from Central bound and gagged and find the entire staff at Briggs waiting for orders. They still haven't betrayed Armstrong, and they don't want any harm to come to "the female element". (Winry)

Probably obvious, but that's all i could think of for now. Four more days left!

Yeah, I think I'm one of the very few people who liked the anime and the movie. I thought there was a sense of angst from the very beginning... their mother, Hughes, Nina. I've seen the series twice. The first time I was disappointed that it didn't end on a lighter note, the second time I realized it couldn't have ended any other way. The story is tragic to begin with. I DID NOT like the deal with Rose though, lol, I agree with everyone on that.
I hated the way the anime practically paired Ed and Rose together, and I especially hated the lack of reaction from Winry when she realized she would never see Ed again. That was poorly done! Other than the deal with Winry I liked the way the movie ended, with the boys back together. If they ended up together in their own world, it would have been too clean of an ending.
But you know, to each his own. ;)
As for the next chapter, I think we'll return to what's going on with the Bros., but I'm very curious with what Mustang will do with his newfound information. And what are Hoho's intentions? What is he up to?

I also thought that Ed's voice had changed. However, I later realized (at the carnival, right where Ed claps his hands out of habit) that it was the darker hue and the clothes, and the ponytail. I know voices aren't affected by visuals, but something about the beginning of the movie (the flashback of the uranium bomb), with Ed in his normal red jacket and black shirt; then that scene at the carnival with his new hairstyle and clothes; something about that made my mind interpret the voice a different way (does that happen to anyone else?), but maybe Vic Mignona (however way it's spelled; I'm just too lazy to look it up) tried to change his voice when he saw how different Ed looked?

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed this, but throughout the anime, up until the last episode or two, Vic's played Ed's part with a slight comic twinge in the way he spoke. However, near the end, and especially in the movie, one can sense in the voice all the pain Ed's gone through (When Envy the dragon bursts out of the tower and Ed yells "Envy? Is that you?" , Vic did an amazing job with the tone, expressing every emotion just through his voice.)

Although I did list all those things about the anime that I hated (again, sorry if it offended you), I do respect the effort that went into the production. Although there were some English voice actors I believe were miscast, there were quite a few who didn't just read the line; they WERE the line.

And there's my corny speech. *waves*

Syolen
10-08-2007, 03:05 PM
Don't worry Winry-chan, no offense :)

And I agree, Vic Mignona did an amazing job. I don't remember him changing his voice after the opening scene of the movie, but it would make sense (god, does EVERYTHING make sense in FMA ??). Ed's older and has hardly had anything to laugh about in two years, so he would sound more serious.

WOOT! Yeah, I can't wait! I hope it's a good chapter, as my other mangas have been disappointing recently. Well, Naruto has been good, but it keeps opening up a whole new set of questions. Bleach, however, has been breaking my heart.
But I don't think I can recall ever being disappointed with FMA. It has always held my interest.

FMA is monthly so reading it after a long time is fun and refreshing. So after a long break, usually it seems that something new is happening and all. And for a monthly manga they cant lag so much or drag the story like weekly mangas. They always have to show something interesting for the readers to retain their interest. But seriously I am dying to read the next chapter, maybe they'll tell more about Hohenheim.

Pansori
10-08-2007, 07:37 PM
I agree, I think FMA being monthly has a lot to do with helping to keep my interest up. But at the same time I think Arakawa is better than Kubo or Kishi when it comes to moving the story along without dragging it out. They all have their good points. Kubo is great with fight scenes (although this Renji & ishida fight is pissing me off!http://i.imdb.com/Photos/CMSIcons/emoticons/angry/angry4.gif) and Kishi has the character development down to an art form. But to me, Arakawa is the best of the three.
Ahh, it's a hassle waiting a month for FMA, but the payoff is usually worth it. :D

WOOT! Chp 76 spoilers!!! Translation in process:

As predicted, the Philosopher's Stone plays the key (in the fight against Kimbley) in this chapter.

Chapter starts...
Ed is teaching about the Philosopher's Stone to others in order to plan the attack against Kimbley.
Ed says he had never seen any Philosopher's Stone larger than the size of pebbles. To make larger stone, that must have been created using huge number of human sacrifices, hence he would not even want to see it.... Overwraps Hohenheim' s image...

The storm has subsided. Miles is ready to sniping down two guards for Kimbley from the distance. Ed suggests to catch them and get the information instead. Miles lectures Ed about the Laws of Briggs. Ed shuts up. Then Miles tells that he feels envy about Ed and Al who choose saving lives over killing.

The scene changes to somewhere in the mine tunnels.
Marchor and his company are trying to read Scar's brother's research notes.
(Below is from the research notes)
*In Xing, it is said that an immortal man = true man = perfect man.
*Gold is a perfect metal, hence.. true man = Gold man.
*It is said that the person who brought the Alchemy to Xing was an immortal man with golden hair and golden eyes, hence the above saying.

Scar comes out to the entrance of the tunnel and meets up with Al.
Al tells them that Briggs Fort has solders from the Central now, and the mjor General Armstrong was summoned by the Central, and hence they can't hide at the Briggs Fort now.
Winry asks that Kimbley might catch that Al is missing fro Ed's group, and Al tells Winry that Ed will probably come up with something.

Meanwhile... Ed, Miles and the company meet up with Kimbley's company. There is Al, moving rather awkwardly. Ed transmuted "imitation" Al's armor and there is a solder inside. "Imitation" Al speaks like a military man. XDD

Miles tries to catch a good timing to shoot Kimbley. Kimbley realizes, and blows up snow so that they can't see Kimbley, and escapes. Kimbley's guard solders turn out to be more chimeras.
One chimera fight Ed, another goes ahead and enters the mine tunnel in search of Scar and the company.

Ed fights the chimera solder. Ed can't see because of the snow. On the other hand, the chimera uses his nose. Miles tries to help he also can't see in the white out.
With the limited visibility, Ed falls into the mine shaft.

Ed faces chimeras who followed Ed in the mine tunnel. Ed tries to scare chimeras with the dynamite. Chimera says it wouldn't work because it's wet. Ed transmute ammonia from the ingredient of dynamite, and the chimeras with the keen nose go belly up.

Ed faces Kimbley. It seems Kimbley knows about (their scheme about) Winry.
KImbley quickly turns to using Philosopher's Stone.
Ed feels this is a good chance to use the technique he has devised against Kimbley.

Aided by lightened Automails Ed succeed in taking out the Philosopher's Stone inside Kimbley's hand, and also able to damge Kimbley's Transmutation Circle on his palm.
Ed feels the victory, and he didn't even have to kill Kimbley... Or did it??

Kimbely tells Ed that Ed's conviction about "not to kill" even in the battle and the lack of thought that the person might have more Philosopher's Stone would be Ed's downfall... Kimbley takes out another Philosopher's Stone which he had swallowed during the Ishval War, and perform Alchemy.

The building around Ed collapses. Ed coughs up blood. He sees an iron rebar penetrating his side. Ed loses consciousness.

The same moment, Al falls down. Al: "My soul is being pulled!!"
Winry screams: "Someone!! Ed!!" The sight of both Ed, and Al down on the ground.....

34 pages is too short. That sucked. All they talked about was the chemistry of philosopher's stone for 5 pages. Making a lame plan to kill Kimbley for 15 pages. And finally when Kimbley pwned Ed in the end, things were getting interesting and then it suddenly ends. Waiting for another month for this is pure torture. :(
