One Piece's 'Prototype' Romance Dawn to be Animated

This year's 32nd issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine has confirmed on July 7 that the Jump Super Anime Tour will animate for the first time Romance Dawn, Eiichiro Oda's "prototype" manga that eventually evolved into his hit One Piece series. Oda drew Romance Dawn as two separate pirate stories that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump's Summer Special issue and 41st issue of 1996. Both stories featured a young pirate named Monkey D. Luffy as the main character, but were otherwise much different from each other and the actual One Piece manga that launched in 1997. Oda named One Piece's first installment "Romance Dawn" after these earlier manga stories. The two Romance Dawn one-shot manga stories have been republished in the One Piece Red and Wanted books.

I don't quite get it? Does it mean Luffy is also the main character in this "Romance Dawn"? The same Luffy or different Luffy?
If it is the same Luffy, then it means Luffy have 2 different adventure.

Yea this is a good idea but its just a one time thing right? or is Oda gonna work on a side anime? this overall is a good idea and I agree he should do this with the other 4 one shots

The most important thing here is if this animated episode will be the one with Silk or the one with Anne and her roc Balloon. Both of the villains in it were lame. Its funny this comes up I recently just read these one shots and came across a fan fiction where somebody was using the characters from the two Romance Dawn one shots.

If I remeber correctly, Romance Dawn is a prototype one shot of three chapters that was released prior to OP.

It was the original idea Oda had way back when he first started first start drawing manga, he has been thinking about drawing manga about pirate way back during Junior High and Romance Dawn was his first published work as mangaka after he stopped being assistant to other mangaka. He later refined and re-designed the framework in Romancing Dawn and it become the OP that we know today.

First chapter Luffy saves a town and Shanks their first encounter was mentioned.

Second chapter shows that Luffy was aspired to be a pirate because of his grandpa, who is also a pirate, he also met a girl name Ann, who became the prototype for Nami.

Third chapter is basically an alternate version of OP chapter 1 detail kid Luffy and Shanks and how shanks lost his arm, its also the first time Gold Roger is mentioned.

Well, technically, there are only two Romance Dawn's. The first being with Luffy's Grandpa that looks like Garp, and the second being with Shanks. There is no third Romance Dawn as ONE PIECE isn't called ROMANCE DAWN.

Isn't it just stating that Oda made two Romance Dawns? That or you're right about them animating both Romance Dawns. Either way, I'll still be happy about the animation of Romance Dawn.

Two chapters. The third one you speak of is part of One Piece's story. Unless you speak of the Oda's oneshot, WANTED.

Ok thats cool and makes sense about what was pointed out about the article animating both versions of RD but it should be clear to everyone that these 2 Romance Dawn episodes they're making are not cannon with one another and are two separate stories. The differences are clear with Shanks and Grandpa, if it weren't for that and the origin of the gomu gomu fruit they could've been connected.

I wonder why Oda changed the first ppl Luffy befriended in RD to OP from girls(Silk & Anne) to a boy(Coby)?

Cool, so we'll have finally ROmance Dawn as an anime, well, it's just one episode long I guess but it's a good news. That would indeed be cool to have the other one shot, Ryuuma first! I wonder if they will keep the same voices for the characters who are both in One Piece and RD (like the Moon moustache guy for example...I think he appeared in the anime in Loguetown as a wink to RD)

another thing I noticed with that pic is Silk doesn't have her sword hmmm lol.

I doubt Gyari's ship is the Thousand Sunny it has nothing to do with being a Crescent Moon pirate unless their name changes.

From the look of it, I would say it's only one episode, since it's for celbrating the 40th birthday of SJ at least. Yeah, it doesn't hve anything to do with the Crescent Moon pirates, but that's the oly reason I see for having Thousand Sunny here (unless it's Luffy's boat, but in the one shot he was collecting sails for his little boat for being quicker ...). Or maybe, Sunny-go will be in the port of the town, just for a wink

oda's style here in romance dawn is not fully developed due to lack of details or something in the story but it's being comedy is the best!
