I love this series. Even though the artwork isn't the best, the lead character has a really charming personality and she's not one of the damsels in distress like in most shoujo manga.

Kyoko has at least as much talent as Kanae, seeing as how her roles turn out to be real good, that even Ren got impressed.

Yeah I'm a member of the Skip Beat yahoo group 2 but even I get confused on how 2 get them so I've been buying them. I don't care really because the manga is good enough 2 buy. Kyoko isn't ur ordinary 'victim' and it shows she has some backbone. So far there are 6 released? yeah I think I have 6.

Anyways, Enchantment scans are allowing DLs of their chapters released but it is true that u must join the forum to DL them. I have up to chapter 49 from Enchantment but nothing more. Another thing is that Enchantment won't be releasing for the month of August so any more chapters will be until later this year. Sux but tru.

Onemanga.com is not allowed to host scanlations done by our group which is called "Skip_Beat_Scans" or scanlations done by the "Skip Beat Discussion Group".

Is there a master list within our group? No, we release things when they are released. Everything can be found in our memories.

Is it disorganized? Well, aren't all scanlators and translators just volunteers to begin with? So, I guess that depends on your definition of "disorganization". The team of scanlators and translators change, but still, these two groups are the only source that have the up-to-date chapters. Enchantment Scans is only releasing previous scanlations. Enchantment Scans's last chapter was 49 (someone else did 50). Enchantment Scans also allows anyone to go to their site and download certain chapters without you having to register or join their forum (at least for a while). [Um, but right now they have those chapters closed off to the public, and to get it from them now, you have to join their forum, but for a while those chapters were opened up for download. So, that's probably how Onemanga.com got them. ]

But ours is a more private group, and though, any one can join, they at least have to be a member in order to get our scanlations and translations.

Hmm...hope that makes sense.

"Memories" for Yahoo groups, all that means is to check previous people's messages. There is a search system so you can type in something, and if someone wrote about it, you'll get all the hits with that word in it. Chapters are sent out to the group as a whole through email messages. So to check previous one's you just go to the group's messages and scroll back through the old ones. It is tedious, but you will find stuff.

Actually, I love the way Nakamura Yoshiki draws girls, but the guys' faces are too long and there necks are too big.

I dont understand why alot of people do not like the artist style of drawing! I think her drawings are unique, just like hyung-tae kim, and other manga artist. I think i would be more concern if her drawings were like other artists than her own but thats just my opinion.

BUT oh my god! i just finish reading chapters 30-50 like the 6th time!!! wow kyoko is really becoming a really good actress!! Wow Ren's jealousy is really concerning, they were only childhood friends for a short period! wow kanae child abuse is now explained! her family is weird! but come on people no comments about kyoko and shou's meeting!!!!

Was i the only one who was like oh my god! and seething in happiness when kyoko struck a blow to shou's ego! But the main thing i felt bad for kyoko when she notice that shou was being nice to the girl he obviously dont like (come on little doggy) but he did not show kyoko any ounce of kindness!

Also shou's expression of confusion about kyoko's drastic change! what was the deal with the "perfect couple" and that "he own's her"! any thoughts?!

I read all of the chapters posted in OneManga in two days, not even. It's so addictive and Kyoko is...I have to hand it to her, dedicated like crazy. Her revenge fueled her the first part of her life, then she slowly matures and realizes her own weaknesses. She's amazing for a 16-year-old. Her acting skill is also superb...Is her mom an actress?

yeah kyoko is really fascinating. her expresions are great. the story is getting good. the love triangle between sho/kyoko/ren is handled well so far, i like sho's reaction on the stalker and ren's finally admit to himself that she likes kyoko. she is getting much better at her acting specially her last loveme job when she acts as a boy and the son of hozu shuuei. can't wait to read the next chapter.

the artwork is good specially the facial reactions of the characters are done really well.

i begin to read this manga and i totally loved it except for the drawing because sometimes i'm a little confused...kyoko's expressions are so funny!! especially when she was wearing the rooster costume and then sho appeared (funny face), also when she was talking to ren wearing this costume, i laugh so hard that my stomach hurts!! i hate sho so much. how can he treat a girl like this!! unforgivable! hope that she'll end up with ren...

I can understand why there are some complaints about the art because that was initially what kept me from reading Skip Beat! Actually, I read Tokyo Crazy Paradise first and got accustomed to Nakamura's artwork. It's not so bad once you get used to it. IMO, I just don't like it when she draws her females smirking. The smirk often times comes across as really evil to me, but her happy, cute expressions are well-drawn on the female characters.

As for the males, like somebody else mentioned in this thread, I feel like she draws them too long when in the frontal position. I prefer it when she draws them from a profile because then, the faces seem proportional. Nothing cracks me up more than when I see chibi Ren. Chibi Ren is both hilarious and cute!

According to Reino, Ren experienced pain and suffering far beyond Kyoko's, and if you look at Kyoko, her father died, her mother hated her then abandoned her, she was bullied in school, and her "boyfriend" betrayed her. We know that Ren had to grow up in his famous father's shadow, but can that really compare, let alone exceed Kyoko's suffering?

(I'm just shocked to know that his parents are still alive! With all the hints that were given, I expected them to have been murdered or killed in an accident.)

As far as comparing his pain and suffering to Kyoko's, it's a different type pain and suffering. Ren was so loved and so praised by his parents that when he went to act like his father and mother, the expectations for him immediately show that he was as talented as his father was overwhelming. None of the directors, actors, help, etc, saw Ren for himself- only as, at best, an extention of his father, or ,at worst, an imposter using his father's name to get roles. He was never measured on his own merits and abilities- no one nurtured the 'acting spirit' within him.

Plus, the fact that he has a beautiful and talented mother, that too was a burden. Ren wasn't as beautiful nor as talented as she- so another strike against him. With all that pressure, I'm assuming that his background was like Ogata's in that he was never judged on his own merits- always by the measuring stick of his parents.

That yardstick was so encompassing that it crushing his spirit. (remember what Kyoko said as she quoted Korn,'Father's hands are too big- everytime he flew, his wings would get caught and ripped up in Father's hands')

So in all, I think he acted out- violently. Against his parents, directors, people- so much so that he might have actually hurt or accidently killed someone while he was rebelling. And that was much more painful for Ren because at least Kyoko, through out her childhood, had Shoutaro to love even though her mother didn't love her, even though she didn't have female friends. Through out her childhood, Kyoko was not as lonely as Ren- who practically had no one his age to talk to.

If you think about it- Ren can just be a male Mio and Kyoko can be a Miyuki. :eek: :lol:

It's really logical if you think about it- for 'Dark Clouds' when Kyoko was trying to figure out the role of Mio, she had to figure out the difference between Mio and Miyuki since they both had a similar past. But why wasn't Miyuki as warped as Mio? The answer: She wasn't overwhelmed by the past like Mio was- there was always some bright spot of love in Miyuki to make her happy.

and i also agree that this is a totally different manga, and for me,probably its the first manga in which each chapter was equally interesting. i remember, i read the whole manga continuously without any unnecessary breaks;) because i couldn't let go!! :D

Yeah- I hope that there's more revealed on Ren's sad past. Especially since he gives off the hints that he can't do anything really violent because he's scared of those roles. (Maybe hitting too close to home and can't snap out of those roles very quickly?)

Ok- this is what I remember from my spoiler source. I'm sorry to say that I deleted the messages after I read them. (I do that deliberately so that I can be happily surprised again by the Onemanga staff's works. :lol:)



117: The party's in full swing and everyone is greeted the way only way that Lory can do- loudly. Moko comes to the party and so does a guest that Lory knows. Maria plays the piano and then wants Kyoko to meet someone.

And that's all I can remember- I've been trying to look for the spoiler but no luck yet. I can't even remember where I read it- it was in a couple of places.

I really love Skip Beat! ^_^ I ignored this series ever since it came out in Japan (in 2002) right up to last week. (Weird, eh? Took me 5 years!?) So, I read all the chapters up to the current chapter in two days. Before reading SB, I thought this was a cliche manga plot of a girl doing revenge to a guy. Glad, it wasn't the case.

I like strong balanced independent female characters and I can proudly put Kyoko onto the list along with Kiri from Beauty Pop and Myung-Ee from Moon Boy (manhwa). ^^; Also, I like one sided loves that need a long time for the other side characters to actually realize they love the other person. It makes the story interesting.

My opinion concerning the Sho-Ren-Kyoko triangle. I don't actually see it as a triangle. I feel that Sho has a brother/sister type of relationship with Kyoko. They grew up together so that makes them more like siblings. Little Sho failed in the "comforting the girl" department when they were kids. She always ran off and got comforted by Kuon. Heh. :D

As for the dark pasts between Kyoko and Ren, I'm looking forward to when they can be resolved. Ren lately can't help but to revert to "Kuon" sometimes when no one's looking. *tsk tsk* Is he beginning to forget that he has to act as "Ren"? I have a weird feelinig that Kyoko's mother would be sort of like the main villain at the end. Supposedly, her mother asks her to come back with her for some selfish reason. >_<

And so, with Chapter 119 released (edit) sometime soon, uh... We'll find out what happens with Maria and her father. As someone else has said, no wonder Maria likes Ren. Ren looks just like her father!! O.o Now, we just got to wait patiently for those 119 raws to show up.

Maybe, I'm mis-reading the bottom part of the final page on 118. >_< Maybe, it does say no new chapter on 2/20.. It can't be though. It has to be... Wahhh.

Skip Beat! is currently ongoing in Japan. It's serialized in Hana to Yume and the last chapter was Chapter 118. It comes out twice a month, so I think we're due for Chapter 119 soon.

Maria and her father are finally reunited. It ends with Maria and Kyouko crying. Lory and Tora are happy over the outcome. For the fun part at the end, Ren offers a handkerchief for Kyouko. Then, the clock strikes 12. Kyouko is looking at the clock. Ren calls her and to her surprise, he gives her a rose and greets her a happy 17th birthday. So, it seems that Kyouko’s birthday is on the December 25th. Haha, my theory about the rose is wrong. I didn’t expect Ren to do that. ^^; What would be Kyouko’s reaction? What will be Ren’s alibi as to how did he know her birthday? The author goes to evil mode because the continuation will be on March 19.

Kyouko is surprised that the man in the box is Maria’s father. Kyouko remembers Maria telling her before that even if she gives her father an invitation, he won’t come because he is busy. Kyouko is really happy that her father came anyway so she tells Maria that it’s great. Maria asks why which confuses Kyouko. It turns out that Maria didn’t give her father an invitation. Kyouko is shock for isn’t her father the one whom she wanted to see the most on her birthday. Lory asks if she is surprised. Lory points to Maria’s father and says that ‘this’ is his gift to her for making such a blissful party. He is brought there by Tora though forcefully. Lory says his gift doesn’t even need to use money to buy and her father is Lory and Tora’s gift for her birthday so why don’t she go there and get her present. Tora urges her to go but Maria is hesitant. Tora whispers to Maria that if she didn’t do this at the party, it will be a blow to Kutcher [Maria’s father]. Maria is surprise and tries to explain. Tora gestures for her not to tell him but tell it to Kutcher. Maria goes to the stage where his father waits. Ren overhears some people talking that it is the first time they see Lory’s son and they remember that after his wife passed away, he and Maria weren’t in good terms but then, it can’t help to have a grudge and it could be because he rejected Maria before. Ren looks a bit sad about this then he looks at Kyouko who is looking at the scene quite hopeful.

Maria is on the stage and tries to say, ‘ah..this..’ to her father. She tells him that she didn’t give him an invitation isn’t because she doesn’t want to thank him and it isn’t because she thinks he isn’t important. Her father says he knows why Maria didn’t give him an invitation and it is because she thinks that she will bother his work. Maria bows down and apologizes. Her father bends down and says that he should be the one who should apologize for making Maria bear it until now. She can be capricious [do as she pleases] once again for it isn’t good to blame herself. It will be bad if it is because of him that Maria won’t be capricious just like before. He knows that this isn’t the place to say it but it is hard and maybe Maria understands it. He hopes that Maria will let him spoil her. He doesn’t have the qualifications of a father that he doesn’t even know how to get Maria to let him spoil her again and until now, he is quite perplexed about it. He tells Maria that she doesn’t have to bear it anymore and just say things uninhibited, it is okay. Maria is in tears and shakes her head profusely. Her father looks sad as Kyouko and others still watch them. Her father is about to say something when Maria shouts that God is bad because if she say things uninhibitedly, God will definitely take away someone important to her. No matter how many secrets one has, God can still read one’s wishes in one’s heart. So if she thinks of something, God will definitely see it, then it will start, she will become afraid. Maria started to cry as she thinks that she really wishes her father to come even if he has work. Maria says if she said it, then he would go to her party on Dec 24th..then he will have to ride on an airplane. So, she is really scared that if her father rides on an airplane, he will.. Her father looks surprised at this then he smiles. Kyouko’s tears fall like waterfalls as she thinks that because of what happened to her mother, Maria begins to fear airplanes.

While Maria is still crying, her father tells her that he rode on an airplane to come and see her but see, he is alive and well. He opens his arms to her and tells her to come and see if it is true. Maria goes to him and hugs him. Her father thanks her for always loving him. My daughter, thanks for being born to this world. Maria, I love you. Lory winks at Tora who smiles back. Kyouko and others happily smile even if they still look teary-eyed. As Kyouko wipes her eye, Ren offers his handkerchief and tells her to use it. Kyouko wants to decline the offer but Ren smiles and it is a smile wherein she can’t decline. Kyouko is gloomy as she says she actually took it but she won’t dare use it because it is a high quality handkerchief. Ren just keep on smiling at her then looks at Maria and others. He says that he hopes Maria will use this opportunity to let her father spoil her. Kyouko says yes. The clock then strikes 12. Kyouko thinks and also, from today on, she hopes that Maria will always think her own birthday is a happy day. Kyouko thinks that 24th is over and it is already the 25th. Ren calls out her name and she looks to his direction and says, yes. Ren then gives her a rose and says it’s for her. Kyouko is surprised by this that she looks at the rose then at him. He then greets her happy 17th birthday.

And so, things with Maria and her father is finally resolved. They are now going to pick up where they left after her mother died. Her father thought that she still holds a grudge on him for what he did to her during the funeral but it turns out that Maria still loves him to even stop wishing that he would come to her birthday in fear that something might happen to him. As the author’s pattern to alternate arcs with Kyouko’s progress in work and in love, I guess it is time for progress in love. I have forgotten about it but it was mentioned that Shou also plans to release his single on December 25th so he also plans something for Kyouko, maybe it is a song dedicated to her. I think Kyouko will somehow more or less realize the two guys’ feelings for her. A guy doesn’t give a girl a single rose and not think that there is some romantic feelings attach to it unless of course, Kyouko still goes into denial mode. I’m sure Kyouko will have a lot of questions to Ren later on as to how did he know, etc. though I think Ren will not tell her that she is Kuon/Corn yet since he can easily say that he asks someone about it like, Sawara, Kyouko’s manager. Maria’s birthday takes three chapters, how about Kyouko’s? ^-^

Skip Beat is soooo amazing! At first the art did throw me off, but as I read it more and more I've grown to love it. And I'm sorry, but no one can say that the eyes of the characters aren't done exceptionally well. I tried to draw a pic of Kyoko and everything came out great- except the eyes... copying them is sooo hard for me. The aythor puts alot more effort in the eyes of her characters than a lot of artists, her style is just unique.

The clock strikes 12 as Lory and Kanae looks at the clock. Kanae looks at Maria’s side of the party and thinks the party has ended because it has somewhat quiet down already. She takes a number 55 tag from her bag. She gloomily looks at it and wonders if she should just go home. She decides to ‘greet’ Kyouko [that she is going] and starts to walk towards Kyouko’s direction. She sees Kyouko standing with Ren. Kyouko looks at Ren then back at the rose. Ren asks isn’t her birthday on the 25th? Kyouko says it’s true but how did he know. Ren says he learns it from Lory. A note says it is obviously a lie. Kyouko thinks it could be from the resume/register form she filled out before and Lory could have read it there. Ren greets her once again a happy birthday. Looking at the rose, Kyouko remembers when she was young, a woman wearing a kimono called out to her and gave her a gift which young Kyouko happily accepted. Kyouko smiles and accepts Ren’s rose. She thanks him twice as she is blushing. Ren says there’s no need for it isn’t that expensive. Kyouko is really happy about it that she can’t stop blushing and smiling. Kyouko happily looks at the rose. Ren is looking at her and wishes that there aren’t people around. A small note says, plans to do something else. Kyouko says the rose is beautiful that even if it haven’t fully bloomed, it is already brilliant and gorgeous. It is the first time she has seen that kind of rose. Kyouko looks at him and asks if it is the king of roses. Ren is surprised then smiles. He says, too bad..the name of that rose is really..

Unfortunately, Kanae interrupted as she is now facing Kyouko with an angry expression. She asks Kyouko if today is her birthday. Kyouko apologizes to Kanae for not going to her [to talk]. Kanae angrily shouts, I’m asking you if today is your birthday?! Kyouko is really scared as she imagines Kanae is like a demon’s face. She says yes, it’s true. Kanae angrily looks at the rose that Kyouko is holding and tells Kyouko to wait a minute. She angrily stomps away and goes to the cloak counter. Kanae gets a bag with a ribbon on it and gives it to Kyouko. Kyouko asks what is it. Kanae asks can’t you see what it is, it’s a gift. Kyouko asks why. Kanae shouts isn’t today your birthday. Kyouko says that’s true but the reason that you’re angry isn’t seem because I didn’t tell you about it. Kyouko says that Kanae shouldn’t have known her birthday so why did she prepare a gift. Kanae starts to fret as she can’t just say that she thinks that Kyouko would like that gift so she bought it. She imagines when she tries to buy that gift, she is forced to go to many stores since it is always out of stock. Yet, Kanae doesn’t want to lose to a rose since Ren’s single rose is more suitable and cool. She had already mustered enough courage to buy that thing and now, she is holding it. She tells Kyouko that she didn’t think too much about it but she just bought it for her. Even if I didn’t know it is your birthday, I thought that you will like it. Are you happy? Kanae blushes as she says this. Kyouko is in tears as she is moved by what Kanae said. Kanae puts the fairy tale inspired make-up kit [the whole set] on the table and it is Royal Snow brand. Kyouko nose bleeds as she happily exclaims that she finally get this brand. She thanks Kanae and she will use them. Kyouko shouts, I’m very happy.

Kanae smirks as she thinks that she has won. Kyouko likes her gift more than Ren’s gift. Kyouko is happily gazing over the make-up. Yashiro is also smirking. Ren says, that’s right. Yashiro is surprised and says that he haven’t said anything yet. Ren says didn’t he plan to coldly say, ‘You’ve lost again’. I’m guessing that is what you’re thinking. Yashiro frets and tells Ren not to be angry for it is different from thinking to actually saying it. When we went to the party, I thought you are going to give it to Maria though there is a chance it is for Kyouko since he remembers Ren gave the rose to the butler whom Ren asked to give it back to him when it is around midnight. Yashiro says he didn’t know why Ren did that but now, he knows. Even if you are prepared and manages to surprise Kyouko, you still lose to someone who didn’t even know that it is her birthday. Ren tells him that the gift, whether big or small, doesn’t matter because it is the thought that counts. Yashiro says well, that’s true. Ren says, and also.. Yashiro notices a change in Ren’s expression so he asks, and also.. Ren remembers when they were young. Flashback: Young Kyouko told him that her birthday is on December 25th but everyone is busy taking care of the inn especially on that day so they celebrate Christmas and her birthday on the 24th. Ren asked isn’t she a bit sad about it. Kyouko asked why, when she can celebrate Christmas and her birthday on the same day, it is more fun and happier rather than being alone at home. End flashback. Ren says no matter if it is just one or many people, as long as there is someone who greet you on your birthday, one will become happy. Yashiro is at loss for words to say then he looks at Kyouko. The inn couple gives Kyouko a gift as Kyouko happily hugs them. Ren and Yashiro happily look at them. Yashiro says that’s true.

Kyouko narrates that the start of December 25th, she was greeted by Ren. When she heard it, she is actually stunned. Then, slowly, she becomes shy and embarrassed as she accepts the rose. I’ve always been used to people greeting me happy birthday on the 24th. Someone taps her shoulder. Kyouko calls him president as she wonders why he is dressed up like an old man. He tells her that he is Uncle Long Legs and asks if she is already prepared, it is time to start the second phase of the party. He looks at one direction and Kyouko is surprised to see the chefs coming out with a huge castle cake with a happy birthday greeting. Someone then gives her a huge bouquet of flowers. Dark Moon cast start to approach Kyouko to greet her. The choir then starts to sing Happy Birthday then everyone surrounds her as they clap their hands to congratulate her on her birthday. Kyouko narrates that she always like celebrating her birthday together with Christmas but she never knew that celebrating it on the day itself, would give her this unforgettable feeling as everyone celebrates it only just for her. And this adds up to one of Kyouko’s happy events that happened to her ever since Shou dumped her. I didn’t know that there is some sort of rivalry between Ren and Kanae in who could make Kyouko happier. ^^; I guess Ren isn’t too bothered by it as long as the rival isn’t Shou. =P Anyway, I’m sure Kyouko will never forget this birthday. Hmm, I wonder if there is more birthday surprise in the next chapter since I don’t see Maria around.

On December 26, 9:20am, Kyouko is happily looking at the gifts on her table – cosmetics, bouquet, rose, and a pair of shoes. The inn lady comes in and says that she is still staring at those. She thinks that since yesterday, Kyouko has just been in that staring pose. Kyouko says that she feels really happy when she looks at the gifts. The inn lady says she is happy that Kyouko is happy about the gifts because she and her husband didn’t know what to give a young girl. They were helped by the customers to choose the gift. Honestly, they are worried that Kyouko won’t like their gift. Kyouko assures her that it isn’t true for that shoes is a famous brand. Kyouko bows and thanks her for the gift. The inn lady also bows to thank her for yesterday [at the party] and they were really happy. The inn lady then notices that the rose is in a small container and it is taped on the table so that it won’t fall over. She tells Kyouko that it seems that their flower vase isn’t suitable for that kind of flower. Kyouko says it is because the rose is bigger than the ordinary ones. If she has time, she will buy a vase that won’t lose to the rose. The inn lady asks even if she is using time leisurely, doesn’t she have work. Kyouko looks at the clock and notices that it is already 9:30am. Kyouko screams in horror. At the Box ’R’ [drama] meeting, the director[?] asks where is Kyouko. The other cast says that she haven’t arrived yet. They were gossiping that Kyouko is quite courageous to be late and they have no choice but to wait. A dark haired girl tells a co-actress that they shouldn’t say things like that for Kyouko must have her reason as to why she is late. The co-actress exclaims that she is quite big hearted. The dark-haired becomes embarrassed and tries to deny that she is. The other cast laughs and says that Chiori is quite cute. They laugh about something and didn’t notice Chiori’s dark look when no one is looking.

In Dark Moon set, Ren and Yashiro are walking. Yashiro looks at the time and it is 15:50. He is glad that they made it in time since the appointed time is 16:00. Ren says that it is a good thing that they didn’t go to some place to eat lunch and just bought some easy to eat food. Yashiro is holding the bag and says they did bought some fast food since they don’t have much time during lunch but then, if Kyouko knew, she will be furious like a demon. Yashiro feels ill as he begins to imagine Kyouko shouting why they bought that kind of food. Ren says it is better than not eating anything at all. They are surprised to see Kyouko all gloomy and depressed as she sits in one corner. They look at Ogata who says he also doesn’t know what happened because when she came there, she is already like that. Since she is like that, she can’t go into Mio’s character so they had let her rest. Yashiro says it seems that something bad has happened. Ogata says he had asked her about it but she won’t say what it is. It is as if whatever he will say won’t help at all. Ren approaches Kyouko and puts a drink on her lap. This made Kyouko look up as Ren asks won’t she drink it. Ren notices that Kyouko is looking at him as if wanting to talk to him. Ogata approaches the other actresses. They asks what happened with Kyouko. Ogata tells them that it seems Ren is listening to whatever Kyouko is going to say. Ogata thinks that it seems that Kyouko is only willing to talk about it to Ren. He says that it would be nice if Kyouko could recover from what is making her depress and act again.

After Ren listened to Kyouko’s story, Ren asks, and then? Kyouko and Yashiro look at Ren in surprise. Ren says just because of being late in the new drama, you made everyone wait for you for about an hour? Kyouko tries to explain herself but Ren has already stand up. He tells her to forget about it [being late] and quickly try to change her current mood. I will give you 5 minutes to think of a way to do it. Understood. Okay, start. Kyouko is shock and tries to tell him to wait. Ren is already walking away. Kyouko thinks, is that it?! Ren notices something pulling him that he looks behind him to see Kyouko clinging on his coat. Ren asks what does this mean. Kyouko says he should be angry. She thinks because Ren is never late. She tells him that ‘she is quite disappointing’ and ‘she should apologize to death’ are the things that her mind is telling her. Ren says that there is no need to endlessly talk about it and become angry. Kyouko tries to protest and says but she was late, an hour and 23 minutes. And it is for a reason wherein anyone would laugh when they hear of it. Ren says if he gets angry, she will carry this ‘defeat’ to the next work and the rest of the work will be affected. He tells her that she is quite undetermined [unsure of herself] today. Didn’t you say you want to become a first class actress? This surprises Kyouko and it reminded her of her meeting with Tora. Flashback: Tora asked her, in the future what does she plan to learn in the showbiz world and until when would she be satisfied. Kyouko smiled and told him that she wants to find herself and that will be to show off to others about herself. She hope that she has many opportunities to act from now until the future. She want to act in many different roles to have a long autobiography/filmography and I hope to study thoroughly different acting techniques so that in the end, I will become a very strong, very high first class actress. End flashback.

Ren tells her that showbiz world is very strict. Even if a family member dies, one cannot just leave one’s work. Even if one feels depressed and unhappy, one would still smile and act happy. Being able to instantly change their feelings is their specialization. So-called first class are the ones who can stop their own grieving and hurt feelings. If just because of this little thing, you can’t act and then, you don’t even acknowledge for a long time that there are people at work there. They had been waiting for her yet not knowing what is the reason of it all. What first class, the current you can’t even change your feelings to act as ‘Mio’. You should go back home today. If you cannot fully use your acting skill then you shouldn’t stay here. Ren starts to walk away. Yashiro looks back and forth from Ren to Kyouko. Yashiro chases after Ren and tells her that he is quite strict even if it is true, he should do it in a kinder way because Kyouko is depressed. Just a small truth would make Kyouko.. Ren tells Yashiro he knows but saying that will not develop talent and.. Yashiro is surprised that Ren looks confident when he looks at him. Ren says that he won’t say those meaningless things if he thinks that she can’t do it with her talent. Ren keeps on walking as Yashiro is surprised that he stops and looks at Kyouko. He finds Kyouko smiling in confidence just like how Mio would be.

It seems that Kyouko will have problems with her co-star, Chiori later on but she does seem to show what Ren has mentioned. Chiori acting happy and everything yet, the truth she isn’t. Actually, Ren has been able to do this but he have difficulty in suppressing love. =P Once again, Ren helped Kyouko overcome her minor trial. It does show that Ren do recognize Kyouko’s talent and how Ren is the one whom Kyouko can confide things like this. Also, it seems that Kyouko’s goal has changed. Instead of becoming a famous actress to make Shou regret dumping her, it is more about becoming a first-class actress to develop her acting skill and act in many dramas/movies. It has become like Ren’s goal/love for acting. But then, she still haven’t put down those Shou-Ren posters in her room. ^^;

I like Skip Beat...but I haven't been able to read it recently because I didn't like where the plot was going...

In the beginning I loved how different Kyoko was, I mean her demons were the best ( ;) ) and she was really different from the regular gooey, weak main characters of shoujo manga...but then she started to get all mushy and emotional...urgh. I liked how she acted and ad-libbed, though. That was pretty sweet.

I have the impression kyouko mom up and left her because of what she says and sho parents say in chapter 4 page 16 . I wonder if there will be anything about her dad. New chapter out! Ren is totally making the moves on Kyoko. Now it's just a matter of time (probably a long time) until Kyoko realizes it for herself =D I wonder what's happening with their careers now. As long as Kyoko is motivated, she can only get better at acting and hopefully get better roles, possibly even a lead one sometime soon in the future.

Ok, I've finally re-read the beginning of this manga and there it says that Kyoko's mom abandonned her (her mom just left her at home and didn't return) so Sho's parents took her in and took care of her until she moved to Tokyo with Sho. It's not clear if Kyoko knows the location of her mother. I don't think she knows the whereabouts. Her mother left her and didn't came back to look after her. Why should she then let Kyoko know where she is? Kyoko didn't want to involve her mom is probably because she knows perfectly well that this doesn't interest her mom. To look for her mom will only hurt her because her mom could prove what Kyoko's thoughts are.

New chapter was quite funny...Now I understand why Ren didn't mind to lose against Moko-chan's present.... He already had planned it all....:) He just knows Kyoko too well...lol

I think Yashiro-san is great, he just knows whats going on all the time even if Ren thinks he's fooled him. It is clever of Ren but it's going take Kyoko forever to realise his feelings for her, if he keeps making up stuff rather than telling her the truth, or even hers for him.

I would say the latter. Sure that drop could be expensive, but he used the drop to make his story believable. (At least Kyoko fell for it:p)

the real gift was the crystal droplet, but ren initailly gave her the rose so she wouldnt return it out of courtesy.. since its just a rose. the story he told her is to basically make her find the droplet inside rose, and make her happy

Kyoko is in denial of Ren's feelings even though she kind of feels that Ren likes her (when she realize that the way Ren smiles towards the person he loves is the same smile he gave her). It's really hard to guess who ends up with who, since the author has her ways of keeping it a secret -.-. But, don't you guys agree that the storyline is kind of slow and there's only a little progress of Ren and Kyoko's relationship?

I'll admit that I'm as big of as a Skip Beat! fan as many others out there.

However, I do have to agree that things are definitely beginning to DRAG. 123 chapters and still no love confession or any type of realization on Kyoko's part at all. I don't mind that Kyoko is completely clueless when it comes to love, in fact that's one of her more charming traits, but we need more progression in the romance department. We know that Ren and Sho have finally come around to admitting their own true feelings, but it doesn't mean squat when the protagonist has barely made it off the ground in terms of understanding her own feelings.

If it's taken 123 chapters for Kyoko to get to the point in her relationship with Ren where she can really trust and rely on him, so how many more will it be before she knows she's in love? 100+ more? Jesus, how many more acting storylines is she going to throw in there? I loved the Dark Moon arc as much as everyone else, and that's because it provided plentiful opportunities for Kyoko and Ren to interact, but where else can we go with the new one? No Ren, and no Sho as of yet, which will probably make for a whole lot of boring. Kyoko's adventures, for me anyways, are more interesting if they also advance Kyoko's relationship with Ren.

The Dark Moon story line was great, and Kyoko meeting Ren's father was well handled, but the birthday party stuff was filler. Way too many chapters were devoted to the simplicity of the birthday party. I sincerely hope that this new arc will get us back on track with things. I never thought that I would ever be bored with Skip Beat! until recent chapters.

Skip Beat! is serialized in the magazine Hana to Yume and it's released twice a month. That's why the chapters are a little shorter in comparison to other shoujos that come out once a month.

Mogami Kyoko is the most original and interesting female main I've ever read in shoujo manga, definitely a jewel among stones. She is neither irritating, weak-willed (or too strong-willed to the point where it's impossible and sickening), or "angelic" as most mangakas love to set their female main characters. Another main character I am fond of is Koshiba Kiri from Beauty Pop.

It seems that there are not that many translators working on this series so the time between updates is naturally longer than between updates of more popular series. I just hope they do not drop it completely.
I loved the last two chapters and it will be exiting to read if Kyoko manages to portrait a satisfactory Natsu and a personal favorite of mine would be a scene where the Kyoko-demons deal with Chiori. That woman is downright evil.
Maybe Ren will show up on set to help her.I would like to see him killing the girls with his smile... :devil:
